Looks like this is a Christmas pudding or Christmas cake in the making. Both are rather unusual in the USA, though.

it's a preWW2 fruitcake recipe - Christmas Cake without the icing...
we liked the Cross+Blackwell Hard Sauce as a add, apparently they've stopped making it?

That looks like one serious fruitcake. Did you add any alcohol to it?

I used about 6 fl ozs / 175 ml of bourbon - I like to add it to the fruit mix.
since the fruits are candied, they stick together - the booze loosens the mix.
the liquid on the spurtle (first pix) is the bourbon...

My mother, aunts, grandmother, etc. all made Christmas cakes every year. Maybe it's regional?
