Eaten something you regret?

Sauerkraut is another thing that I don't eat. I can't even stand the smell of it!!! IDK why it seems so popular with a lot of people!!!! Ever since I was a kid, I did not like it!!!!! It is so gross & nasty looking!!u!! If I'm at a restaurant & I want a rueben sammie, I ask them not to put that in there, but to please use cold slaw instead. Or just have a corned beef & swiss.

Beyond that, okra comes to mind. I thought I'd try it once and boiled it just like peas. Boiling rendered it into elephant snot. It was absolutely disgusting and that was the last time I tried it.
I've yet to try elephant snot, but I can imagine...
The key to cooking okra is to fry it in oil/butter/ghee first. That miraculouly removes the snot. Don't ask me how - I'm a musician, not a scientist!
I use it a lot in Indian food; split it in half, fry until lightly browned, then add all the bits and pieces.

A big regret when at uni, a few (hundred) years ago.
A prawn vindaloo ( the hottest curry available) at about 10.30pm one night.
At 3am, I was sitting in my comfy chair suffering the Algerian hook torture. Unbelievable wild animals clawing at my guts. I probably got e-coli, botulism, salmonella and the black death, all at once.
I survived it though, and am still here to tell the tale.

This happened to me with shish kebab. Never touched it since. Just can't find any desire for it.

I put okra in chicken & sausage gumbo at practically the last few minutes & there was no slime or elephant snot. You can't overcook it, or else that will happen!!!! :ninja:
