I found an old thread on this theme, but decided to start a new one asking the question - What are your favorite movies?

Give genre, if you can and include your favorite foreign language movies too.

Some of mine?

The Naked Prey Drama
Always Drama/Romance
THX-1138 SciFi
Blade Runner SciFi
The Haunting (1963 Version) Horror
The Deer Hunter War/Military
Batteries Not Included Comedy
Brazil Fantasy
Paint Your Wagon Musical
The Sea Hawks Adventure
Kafka Mystery
Flashdance Romance
The Name of The Rose Suspense
Moby Dick (Gregory Peck Version) Adventure
Jean de Florette and Manon of The Spring Foreign Language
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly Western
The Perfect Storm Drama
Backdraft Drama
Ladder 49 Drama

Recent?

I find the newer movies somewhat lacking appeal as they tend to be wham bam and don't hold true to good drama. It's hard to pick a good recent movie favorite.

Jurassic Park SciFi Kind of Recent
Avatar SciFi
Gran Torino Drama
Letters from Iwo Jima War/Military

I think its not so much fave movies as fave directors with me: European directors you may not have heard of:

Alain Tanner, Godard, Truffaut, Agnes Varda etc. I also like Hitchcock and countless others. I'm not really 'mainstream' when it comes to movies. My real love is documentary film. There are many great American and European examples...

One film I will mention: I gave my eldest son the middle name of Jonah because of it. This clip manages to combine sausages and politics, a stroke of genius I think.

@Duck59 might enjoy this. Its a long clip - give it time...

Long clip from 'Jonah Who Will be 25 in the Year 2000':

The Blues Brothers
Cadillac Records
Dances with Wolves
Rainman

I didn't think that there were many until I started to recall them.

[Edit: added one from 1968 - "If" with Malcolm McDowell]

One I liked recently (2014) was "What We Did On Our Holiday".

I know what you mean. Looking at your list, I find a couple more favorites there.

And then there are those movies with sequel after sequel after sequel ...

The Hobbit and Lord of The Rings series of movies. Adventure/Fantasy
Star Wars Episodes SciFi

I really like the "colorized" version of the original "War of The Worlds". SyFi
Most any movie with the Duke. Westerns, War and Drama
The original "Day the Earth Stood Still". SyFi
"Lord of the Rings" and most epic fantasies. There is a series called "The Shannara Chronicles" based very, very loosely on the books by Terry Brooks. SyFi
Most "Marvel" based movies. SyFi

As I mentioned in my original post, I like the older movies a lot.

The original "War of The Worlds" and "The Day The Earth Stood Still" are also on my favorite's list. How about "Forbidden Planet?"

"Angry Red Planet"
There were quite a few '50s SyFi movies I can't remember the names of.
You can't forget those awful Japanese SyFis like Mothra, Godzilla vs ad nauseum!

A buddy of mine won an Oscar for his participation in the documentary "The Cove". He also does film work on the Discovery Channels "Shark Week".

My favorite movie, and really the only one I really like with The Duke is McClintock. I love the mudslide scenes and the chase through town.

I like Avatar and would really like to go see Pandora at Disney, can't wait for the sequel either. I like the original 3 Star Wars movies, iffy about the one where Han died, but I think that's mostly because of his death. DD won't even watch it because of that.

I liked Ladyhawk even though it was a bit cliche. Hocus Pocus is so campy it's a blast to watch.

I also like:
Demolition Man, Action
Stargate, SiFi
Shooter, Action
Practical Magic, Comedy
Most movies with Johnny Depp
Most 50s and 60s WWII movies.
