Favourite dish beginning with..

V - just has to be Vindaloo .

Who can name this show/character? Easily the UK's most famous vindaloo fan:

The only things I could come up with for U are Udang (Malay for prawn) and Ui (Dutch for onion) so we would get
Uientaart (onion pie)
Uiensoep (onion soup)
Uiencurry (onion curry) and
Udang besengkek, udang whatever, you get the point ;)

V is for Vis (Dutch for fish) and I now I go think for English named dishes

Struggling with U, the only one I can think of is:
  • Upside Down Cake: An upside-down cake is a cake that is baked "upside-down" in a single pan—usually a skillet—with the eventual toppings placed in the bottom of the pan.
For V:
  • Vanilla Custard: Great over steamed puddings
  • Veal & Stilton Pie: veal mince and iconic blue cheese
  • Veal Chops: Pan-fried with white wine sauce. An alternative to pork chops.
  • Vegetable Terrine: Numerous ways of doing this.
  • Vichyssoise: chilled soup of leeks, potatoes, onions and cream.
  • Vin Santo Ice Cream: Italian dessert wine used to make ice cream.
  • Vanilla Ice Cream: Ubiquitous flavour for ice cream.
I'm sure there are more but can't think of them at the moment.

You did better than me :)

For the U:
Uova in Purgatorio (Eggs in Purgatory)
Uova alla Monachina ( hard-boiled eggs breaded and fried)

V:
Vitello tonnato (Veal with tuna sauce)
Vongole/Spaghetti alla Vongole (spaghetti with clams)
Vignarola (vegetable stew from Rome made with fresh seasonal produce, usually
  • artichokes
  • fava beans
  • peas
  • Mint leaves
  • lettuce
  • spring onions
  • Guanciale (sometimes)
