Food labelling: gluten free, organic etc.

no. neither the land nor the sheep manure is organic.

Jam with fruit, pectin, and sugar is vegan if the sugar has not been bleached white using animal bone char. Bone char - Wikipedia
https://www.peta.org/faq/are-animal-ingredients-included-in-white-sugar/

I know in Australia, it is outlawed, so it may well be in NZ as well.

I do know of people who use butter as an antifoaming agent in making jam (my Grannie for one) which stopped jam from frothing and boiling over. Obviously, that means it is no longer vegan.

It's very confusing isn't it.
I dont add pectin to my jam. It sets perfectly

I don't know if the produce could still be labelled vegan though.
I am not sure where have the idea that anything grown in manure can not be vegan from, but I can assure you that is not a problem

The organic thing is a problem. There are very strict land controls and the land has to be maintained organic for 5-7 years (country dependant) before it can be called organic. My chooks do not lay organic eggs because they live on land that is not organic despite the fact that the feed I feed them is organic. What they eat from the land, is not.

I can not also call my produce organic because again the land has not been organic for x many years, and run off from other land is not organic and so on. there are strict controls, hence the price tag

In Australia, the manure is meant to be organic, so organic feed for the animals!
