Forgotten dishes

I love lentils and garbanzo beans, it turns out they are good for your liver, particularly for older females, which can affect your cholesterol production. I didn’t really know I have been eating healthy stuff for me.

I’m struggling to think of anything just because I still make the things I like even from decades ago and have forgotten the stuff I didn’t like.

Maybe one that will make a lot of people want to vom, Pilchards on toast.
Very hot toast, loads of butter and tinned pilchards in tomato mashed up and spread onto the toast.
I always loved the contrast of the cold pilchards and the hot toast.

I wasn’t here during the Depression but a lot of instagram posts popped up in my view, potato peel soup is a dish during that time. I don't know if people still make this dish or not.

My dad used to buy tins of pilchards, or sardines, and mash them up with malt vinegar. Sandwich time.
Now there's something I could enjoy from my youth.
Mostly though, I remember dishes from school and shiver uncontrollably. Fish (cooked for about 3 hours) in white sauce. Lancashire hot pot (I only ate the potatoes).Flummery (something between a floppy blancmange and an over-set jelly). Suet pudding. Spotted dick; so heavy, you could use it as a medicine ball.
Ahhh - here's one I used to enjoy: Sausage Lyonnaise - basically, British bangers drowned in an onion and gravy sauce. Yep, I'd revive that one.
