Gen Z. No instant success, no instant reward, just give up.:laugh::laugh:
Make him stand over that instant pot for the next 4 hours until it comes out right!!
*Yeah, I know that's not going to happen:D
Good idea!

Like when I got caught smoking a cigarette and had to sit there and smoke the whole pack... 🤢

I guess your experience of gen z and mine differ significantly!

I really wouldn't mind if we dropped the Gen Z bashing.
Being a parent to two very hard working Gen Z’s and seeing the how the opportunities aren’t there for them the same way they were for me I have a hard time listening to it.

I suppose it’s no worse than the war generation going on about the lazy useless boomers but overall I don’t think any of it’s useful to anyone!

The thing that’s always made me laugh a little is everything negative that’s ever been said about Gen-Z has been said about Millennials…and Gen-X…and Boomers…and so on and so on.

Lazy, entitled, no gratitude, everything handed to them, never had it easier, wouldn’t know hard work if it fell on them, spoiled, blah blah blah. That’s every older generation talking about every younger generation.

Hunter-gatherer Grandpa: Why, you’ve never had it so good! We had to go out and, you know, hunt for and gather together our food. You just drop a seed in, wait around a bit, and pluck your food from the ground! Lazy malcontent!

Of course it goes the other way. The farmer boy would be whining that Grandpa didn’t understand how hard it is these days, all it takes is a good flood and there goes food for the year, and how at least Grandpa got to travel, farmer boy is stuck tending the crops!

Regardless of the direction, it does get tiresome, but wishing for it to end is like wishing for the sun to quit coming up.

I think it’s fine to request it stops.
That’s how things end, when people eventually say “that really is enough now” it’s tiresome.

It’s how every bit of mean spirited nonsense (racism, sexism, homophobia) eventually became unacceptable, because people asked for it to stop.

We do in baby steps make moves in the right direction so long as everyone’s behind it and gen bashing going on that list is fine by me, and by gen z apparently.

Wah wah wah

I was told growing up you have 3 rights:
  • To pay taxes
  • To starve
  • To die
Nothing else is given or owed and nobody cares about your feelings. Get off your arse and go to work, do something useful for the planet. 🤷‍♂️

They did and they do.
Some respect is due.

I would be honest about the whiniest gen I’ve had to deal with but I think that would cause offence.
Fortunately I’m too well brought up to be that rude.

Oh hell I'm about 10 years older than you, but given my perchance for whining it's got to be my gen!

Hmm yes and no.
Gens are divided with quite large gaps. Gaps that years wise don’t add up to specific generational attitudes, yours or the ones above you.
I suppose thats why I find them annoying, good understanding tolerant folk are good understanding tolerant folk end of, age is irrelevant.

I’m very close to a Millennial niece. We speak (text) almost daily, and I’ve been something of a confidante for her since she started university probably 20 years or more ago. She’s now a university professor in California.

Anyway, all through her early adult life, and into her 30’s, a common venting session with her would center around how hard she was working, how she was succeeding in school, how she was working this job and volunteering for that charity, and all she ever heard was, “Millennials are entitled! Millennials are lazy! Millennials want everything on their terms!”

I’d give her a shoulder to cry on and let her blow off steam, agree it was unfair and all that, and she’d be good for another month.

Then, several years went by, established in her career, and…she got a couple of Gen-Z interns.

“Uncle Tasty, I have to say…these Gen-Z kids are less than useless! They don’t pay attention! They don’t listen! It’s their way or no way! They’re soooo lazy and enti—”

“Entitled? I bet they ‘think they know everything?’ and ‘they don’t know how good they have it?’ - you do know who you sound like right now, right?”

“Yeah, I know, but this is different! This time, it’s all true!!!” :laugh:

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

I know forums are predominantly the domain of older folk but I wouldn't mind some younger peeps on the forum.
I think we could perhaps extend past the tiny smattering of millennials and attract some younger folk 🤷‍♀️

They have a fresh take on food I think we'd all enjoy seeing. I don't see that happening if we join in on the traditional punch down, they're just not gonna feel welcome 🤷‍♀️

I'd welcome it but having been on this forum for a very long time I'm cynical. The youngest regular contributors we have had are 30 something. There are odd exceptions but they don't stay.

I'm not really sure why that is except that, in general, popular social media is fast moving and doesn't encourage extended or in depth discussion. So, forums are seen as slow and ponderous perhaps?

I've no particular view of Gen Z* (a Western concept it should be noted) Like any other generation they vary enormously depending on background, experience, etc. Many of them have a tough time in the UK because rents are high and house prices are ridiculous.

Do they cook less than earlier generations? In the UK I think the answer may be yes. Supermarket ready meals are pretty good here, don't use additives and are not expensive.

* Gen Z: aged 13 - 28
* Millenials: aged 29 - 44
* Gen X: aged 45 - 60
