• I’ve added a casual chat room to CookingBites as a place for off-topic banter, light conversation, and short-lived chit-chat that doesn’t belong in forum threads. The chat room is informal and lightly-to-not moderated, with messages being temporary, so it’s ideal for friendly back-and-forth that would otherwise derail discussions. Site rules still apply, but there’s no reporting system or expectation of post-by-post moderation - if something becomes uncomfortable, the right response is to step away. If a topic has substance or lasting value, it still belongs in the forums; everything else can head to chat.

Do you not freeze it in more sensible size portions first? I've found that my small ice cube trays are roughly 1 teaspoon each of grated and then chopped ginger (I didn't have the spice blender at the time) so I know for every tablespoon of ginger required I need to add 3 of these cubes. I was thinking with your jars you would have to defrost the lot first and only take what you need and then make sure you use it all before it goes bad.

Difficult to know how big these pots are, though...

The small one holds about 3 tablespoons I think. I just defrost them until there is enough defrosted for my needs then shove them back into the freezer.

I bought a spare ice cube tray especially for ginger and/or garlic, it even has a lid. Never got around to using it :(
