The BBC has an interesting article on gut health and how eating 30 different plant based (but not over processed) foods can help increase your gut health and micro biome.

Are you getting your 30 plants a week? Plant points explained

The key here is variety. There are no prizes for eating the same plant twice, besides the obvious health-related ones, as Kassam points out: “Most beneficial foods have a dose effect, the more the better, within reason. But, you just can’t count it more than once in a week.”

And when we say these plants must be ‘different’, we don’t just mean in terms of species. Different colours of the same fruit or vegetable are each worth separate points – think orange and yellow peppers, and green and red apples.

I know at this time of year, when I'm dieting, that I will likely not make 30 pts a week, but I thought I'd keep track and find out.

Interestingly fresh herbs only count a ¼ pt. Guess they don't eat as many as this household does. I weighed the coriander bunch today, it was 125g of coriander between 6 servings.

Did anyone fancy joining me?

Interesting bit and I agree with that philosophy on gut health. I couldn't find the food/points list???

I'm counting back.
Which is tricky as I need to remember what I ate.
Onions, red onions, tomatoes, egg plant, green beans, carrots, daikon, bananas, chili's, apple (red), apple (green), limes (incl rind) cashew nuts
garlic, coriander leaves and seeds, cumin, ginger, white beans, potatoes, lettuce, cucumber, butternut, wholewheat bread,
And I have no idea what else, but close enough. With the amount of garlic, chili's, coriander I eat, I figure they are worth a full point :)

I eat a lot of vegs, fruit, herbs, and beans. I don’t t drink coffee nor alcohol. My gut health is excellent, my bloodwork is excellent, not sure what else I can do. I just need to enjoy my life as is, actually I already do. Next helpful idea please.

My neighbor is doing that for both of us. Every time I go outside to enjoy my garden, I can smell his smoking. Our city forbids smoking in public place, in condos, but single family homes they can’t do anything about.
I used to smoke many decades ago. Horrible nasty habit that should be illegal.

This past week: onions, tomatoes, potatoes, lentils, green beans, carrots, lettuce, cucumber, gherkins, leeks, artichokes, spinach, swiss chard, courgettes, beetroot, okra, fennel, coriander, mint, dill, parsley, oregano, hot chile peppers, red and green peppers...
and it's only Wednesday.

Oh, it’s for a week, make a lot more sense.
I have onions, garlic, potatoes, garbanzo beans, carrots, parsley, dill, corn, red peppers, mushrooms, grapefruit, oranges, mandarins, guavas, jujubes, blueberries, thyme…
and it’s only Wednesday.
