High-protein, full-fat dairy endorsed as new US dietary guidelines overturn decades of advice

I have to admit, I'm a bit cynical about "Dietary guidelines" issued by any government. Since they're "guidelines"rather than "rules", who is using them other than government controlled entities? I wonder whether the average Tom, Dick or Harry avidly search the internet, seeking out the latest guidelines, so they can stay healthy, or whether they haven't got a clue, and probably don't care anyway. I know they're trying to provide sound advice, but ?
I think the biggest problem is schools tend to implement them for school lunches.

Doesn't surprise me. Powerful lobbies can exercise lots of influence.
Still, as most of us have already stated at one time or another, as long as consumption is in moderation, it's not necessarily an issue.
If one takes a long, hard look at one's own diet, then there would probably be things like:
Yep - I eat desserts every day, cookies for snacks and take 2 tsps of sugar in my tea/coffee.
Yep - I eat meat at every meal, mostly with potatoes
Yep - I don't really like vegetables and I don't like salad
Yep - If I don't have butter on everything, it doesn't taste the same
Yep - I put grated cheese on everything
Yep - I drink 5 cokes/beers a day. I don't see a problem

Things like that. A perfectly balanced diet is, IMHO, almost impossible to achieve, because there will always be someone, or some government entity ready to tell you the opposite. Add into that equation the environmental/non-dietary factors which may send you to an early grave, and you're probably better off thinking "I'll just stick to what I enjoy most. I'm not going to live forever".

The old food pyramid had been shot full of holes for years, yet it persisted, though everyone knew it was wrong and had long dismissed it. While this may or may not be perfect, it is definitely a move in the right direction. 👍

Ok, I’m not taking sides, mainly because I’m not qualified to, and I’m a big believer in eating whatever you like in moderation and use some common sense, but I had to share this.

I’ve got a BMI just over 25, so I fall into the overweight/obese category by medical standards (FTR, I weighed 183 pounds at my last weigh-in a few days ago and I’m 5’ 9”).

Because of that, I qualify for a free weight management program through my employer, and if I participate for at least a month, they’ll pay me some money back…so I signed up.

I get a free scale, BP monitor, glucose monitor, etc, and it has an app. I have access to both AI and live human coaching, and a load of recipes.

I began looking through the recipes…broccoli cheese soup with full-fat cheese, bacon, butter, and heavy cream…a couple others like that…and I thought, “I’ve seen lots of weight management recipes, and these seem way off…” - my favorite…pork rind nachos, made with 85/15 ground beef, full-fat cheese, and sour cream.

Did a little research…the company co-founder helped create the new upside-down pyramid! No wonder so many of the “diet” recipes don’t look like the usual diet recipes!
