Homesick

Well, at least "si" and "no" were well understood.
True and much more as well. Both languages grew from romance latin and have lots of similarities. Water in Italian is acqua. In Spanish it is agua. Gente (people) is the same in both languages but pronounced differently. Island is isola in Italian and isla in Spanish. etc etc.

English, on the other hand is a mix of romance latin and Germanic languages - house/domestic, church/ecclesiastical etc. etc. English isn't an easy language to learn for a non-native speaker. They say the hardest western language for a non native speaker to learn is magyar, the Hungarian language which is uralic rather than germanic or latin in origin. It actually traces its origins to sandskrit. Luckily for you that's all the linguistics I have for today. :)

I lived in Italy for about 4 months during my youth. I loved it and, particularly I liked the people. Italians have become masters at mastering life; They were patient with my lack of Italian language. I would speak Spanish to them slowly and they would respond with slow Italian. We managed. Great food too. You are from the North. My time there was more to the South on the Amalfi coast of the Bay of Naples.
Ah Morning Glory is reading Cooking Bites. Hope things are going well for you. We need you out of the hospital and back in the kitchen.
