True and much more as well. Both languages grew from romance latin and have lots of similarities. Water in Italian is acqua. In Spanish it is agua. Gente (people) is the same in both languages but pronounced differently. Island is isola in Italian and isla in Spanish. etc etc.Well, at least "si" and "no" were well understood.
English, on the other hand is a mix of romance latin and Germanic languages - house/domestic, church/ecclesiastical etc. etc. English isn't an easy language to learn for a non-native speaker. They say the hardest western language for a non native speaker to learn is magyar, the Hungarian language which is uralic rather than germanic or latin in origin. It actually traces its origins to sandskrit. Luckily for you that's all the linguistics I have for today.
