How is the corona virus affecting you?

Some of those big killers are found mostly in poor/third world nations. You don't see them in Western countries. Malaria, Typhoid,Cholera, Dengue...wait a minute, Pneumonia? 2,216 per year? Nobody told me this!

The biggest killer in our poor country is motor vehicle accidents. C. 22,000 last year.

Went into the Grocery store this morning and they had everything except paper products and any pork. Being a shut in Ill probably smoke meats for the neighborhood.

Because of power outages during earthquake and Santa Ana wind episodes we have 1 month supply of everything on hand.
Wife is an RN in huge Southern Calif medical hospital network and they haven't seen any cases.
Sounds like the news media is hoping it gets worse.

Doesn't look good in the picture but we keep and rotate 12 frozen loaves of ready bake bread in one of the freezers.
Really bakes up nice, tastes great and smells good and nice to have on hand.

Todays update;
No change yet, health wise. I'm not really sick ( no fever) but but not really ok either. Persistent cough with mucus, muscle cramps and headaches. My husband is tired but otherwise fine by now, so I am having hopes that this is just regular flu. We'll have to wait until the 26th to be sure though.

And even then, things are very uncertain for us right now. One of my stepsons is in his exams, which means he does go to school as an exempted group. This means that there is a very big chance that he might get infected, which means for now he will have to stay at his moms place with his brother as I am at risk. Makes for a complicated situation all around. His mom is not happy that she can't bring them here, and of course my husband misses them. But we have no choice.

Hopefully we will be able to get some clear guidelines on what to do in due time.

I'm having deja'vu. Regular flu, persistent cough, lots of mucous. That's where is was when I was diagnosed with pneumonia. Has your doctor done a chest x-ray? Don't panic, but don't ignore it, either. Tell your doctor what's going on, and ask about the possibility of developing pneumonia. It never hurts to ask.

Went into the Grocery store this morning and they had everything except paper products and any pork.

In the last 4 days amongst other items my wife has bought a pack of toilet rolls (24), a pack of kitchen paper (6), 10 duck eggs and 900 gms of pork. There doesn't appear to be a shortage of anything except hand santiser. However, that could change.

On Friday this week I shall be panic buying beefburgers (4), beefburger buns (4), bacon (1 kg), cooked ham (250 gms) and two tins of ravioli.

We're both working from home right now (well that's no change for me....I always work from home) so we're going through more bread than usual, but apart from that we're fine (I also don't get the obsession with toilet paper?).

We've sadly decided that we ought not to go to the pub any more.....its one of the things we enjoy doing together, and whilst we really want to support local businesses through what are going to be difficult times for them, we need to think about risks. We're not worried for ourselves, but my mother in law is not well and we don't want to carry any infection to her. Not visiting her isn't an option as she has no other family to visit her (brother in law can't be bothered) and she probably won't be with us for more than another few weeks.

Ciao a tutti,

Ray comfortable at moment I call hospital and breathing is bit better. I make a good Ragu for my neighbour, later I say I go and do some cleaning and ironing her things for her. I still feel OK.
I have bad sleep last night worrying for Ray. This afternoon I make more bread for church. Roberto at my Deli deliver everything and he say we pay when things get better. I give him my card so I am clear. It becomes hard for Roberto to now get things so may close soon. I offer to help if I can. Roberto from Salerno.
Today I will make a steak and Chianti pasta bake, fresh porcini red pepper and Mozzarella, I do not feel that I want food but know I have to.
I pray God keep you all safe.

I got some hand wipes and flu meds by going on Wal-Mart.com about 2 hours ago. If you want to get free shipping by spending $35 or more, go ahead and put some things in your cart, like the flu meds, then grab the hand wipes when they are available and get checked out before they are all gone.

Craig had an epiphany last night. When we used to breed emerald tree boas, we used a product called Nolvasan to clean and disinfect their cages, and we still have some. So, since we haven't been able to get any hand wipes locally, I made up a solution for him last night to take in his truck, along with paper towels, water to rinse with before eating or drinking, and a garbage bag for disposal. He'll use this until the wipes come.

Nolvasan is available on Amazon at least. It's expensive, always has been, but a little goes a very, very, very long way. Like 1 Tbsp in a gallon of water. It also comes in a generic form.

Also, in my conversation with my doctor yesterday, he told me even using the cheap hair dye gloves would help, and they are still available on EBay at a reasonable price.

I'm really glad your husband is stable. It's really nice of you to want to do things for others, BUT, and this is a very big BUT, you should be in quarantine, not going out of the house and not cooking for others outside of your home. You don't have to be showing symptoms to be carrying the virus and infecting others. By doing all these things for other people, you could be infecting them.

Those are mostly cases where there were severe preexisting health conditions and they weren't in good shape to begin with, plus the cases where the patient waited WAY too long before seeking medical care.

Honestly, since you say your husband has tested positive for COVID-19, the nicest thing for you to do for other people is to put yourself in quarantine. I'm really surprised the nurses or doctors at the hospital didn't explain that to you.

Getting the family updates this morning:

1. Niece and her family (in California) have been placed under a "shelter-in-place" order. No leaving the house except for food/meds. He's self-employed, so zero income for him and his two employees. She's a teacher, so she's able to do distance learning.

2. Brother's wife came back from an out-of-state trip, coughing and achy. She'd been around a sick friend while out of town. That friend is now being tested, should know in a few days what the result is. She's staying in the house, self-quarantining, and he's moved into their camper in the back yard. Once her friend knows what's up, they'll either get tested or move back in together.

He's the main checker-upper on our aged parents, so now we're working out that. Parents can be a handful because my mom is high energy and always wants to be out running around and my dad has mild dementia and isn't taking any of this seriously. They promise to stay home, then 10 minutes later, jump in the car and go run a bunch of errands.

3. Another brother is a teacher. Classes are suspended right now, so he and his wife were volunteering to hand out school meals to the kids who get those, but she's high risk (similar to my wife), so after today, they're stopping volunteering.

The rest of my siblings are in the same boat as everyone else. Doing ok but putting up with a different world this morning.
