How is the corona virus affecting you?

Hello Yorky! I couldn’t see the damn date. 🧐 thank you. Poor Italy is getting hit hard.

I haven’t been on this forum for a while & just popped in to check everyone is ok. I’ve read this thread from the beginning thru & I’m So glad to read that Sarana’s Ray will be ok.

Hi Frizz1974 - its good to see you back. We missed you!

This morning TVC went foraging and managed to get a loaf of bread and loo paper, both have been hard to come by lately.
I know some are finding it hard but I guess we just have to learn to adapt to our current situation.

My wife was in Makro this morning. I asked her if there was evidence of any shortages of goods, bare shelves? She said there was nothing evident - "Thais don't have sufficient money to panic buy".

A lot of people here don't which is why it is so frustrating, those who can grab what they can get with scant regard for others.

Some shops not help. My local paper Birmingham Mail reported a Chemist was charge £19.99 for 200 ml Infant Calpol sell usual for £3.99. Also Paracetamol they asked £9.99 usual £1.39.
When confronted they say very sorry it mistake! More they sorry they found out!!
Vile and disgusting way they act.

As far as I know, at least here in Thailand, there is no shortage of foodstuffs at the present time. Exotic foods from overseas may become limited but I'm sure we can all manage without for a few months. Chicken is still widely available which is surprising after the bird flu scares. And pork - another that you would think would be in short supply because of the swine flu from China, but it's not (although the prices are rising). Other than the requirement to wear masks in the supermarkets and have your hands washed and temperature taken as you enter, everything else appears normal as far as shopping for food is concerned.

However, I received some pictures of the streets in the city today and it looks like a ghost town. Most folks appear to be adhering to the Government request to stay at home.

I appreciate that it's Sunday but I haven't seen it like this since the '90s (when there were hardly any cars).

Also like others have commented, my retirement fund is plummeting at an alarming rate, and under our system I can't touch it for another 5 years to at least cash it and stuff it under the mattress. It's torture to watch 38 years of savings just dwindling away.
Yep, just three weeks ago, I was telling someone I was on track to retire at 59: "...57 if a couple of things break my way! Barring any kind of disaster, I'm cruising to an early retirement in just a few years!"

😐

Sounds like wise advice. But it is a bit nerve racking...wish I had the discipline to just stop checking.
Thankfully, I check mine just once a month, at the end of the month, but I'm skipping March! :)

I've stopped checking the Sterling exchange rate, my pension will be what it will be!

That's one of the aggravating things as Americans who like to travel; the dollar/pound and dollar/euro have been pretty good lately, and it just scratches that itch to travel. Barring that, when we're not traveling, we like to stock up on pounds and euros when the rate's good, but we're spending all our money on stockpiles of dog food right now! :)

This is wonderful news, Saranak! Don't worry about Mother's Day - just take that news as the best Mother's Day present you ever got. Think positive, always positive! :)

I noticed that yesterday. I went to Lebanon, Ohio to visit the larger Kroger. Lebanon has a picture-postcard high street, sort of the poster town for Midwestern small-town America, and the high street is usually so full on a Saturday, you can't park, hard to walk the sidewalks, etc.

Nothing. Nada. Not a soul. Empty. :(

When I took early retirement at age 51 the Sterling/Baht exchange rate was 1:72. Now it is 1:38.
