How is the corona virus affecting you?

What shortage? I don’t know why I didn’t think of this before. My wife thought to check local markets...and we found two close together that had plenty of everything. Well...no hand sanitizer or toilet paper, but fresh meats and breads in abundance.

I can feel myself getting a sore throat. Probably just a cold, or maybe just allergies, but I don't want to tell my wife, as she'll start freaking out, but I'm going to have to figure out an explanation as to why I'm not kissing her goodnight. 😐

Off to sneak a Cold-Eze...

Just made a run to a smaller local grocer / stocked shelves of everything except TP. Picked some strip loins, ground pork, and the ever important ice cream. All from local producers/ processors.

Shops pretty much normal, although the plant nurseries are taking a hit now, people deciding to grow their own, wife said no plants for planting at all. Empty. People must be thinking ahead here. I'm germinating winter crops today, caulis sprouts carrots plus greenhouse stuff, lettuces radishes and spring onions. 25 deg c here , quite hot.

I cannot vouch for the correctness but I actually believe this:

I reckon that I have a 24,000,000 to 1 chance of catching and dying from this virus. I have a 1 in 500,000 chance of dying from starvation as a result of not being able to buy food!

And a 1 in 50 chance of suffering a fatal fall in my bathroom.

That graphic may have been correct when it was made but there are <1000 deaths per day now.

Ive been checking the Worldometers.info/Coronavirus/#countrise page most mornings for 3 weeks now and the number rises daily, mostly in Italy.

Our laws have just changed due to 50 killed by one gunman in mosque attacks a year ago. Government (IMHO) are weak liberal limp wristed socialists, put a buyback for guns. It's ridiculous as there is an underground of crims that don't operate like that. I used to hunt 30 years ago deer etc, but could never kill an animal now. Grandkids would kill me,lol.
I'm aware of the strength of the nra in your country.and your right to carry guns.

Im so grateful that in the wake of the Port Arthur massacre John Howard put such strict laws in place here. And yes there was a buy back scheme & later an amnesty on illegally owned weapons so they could be handed in.

i grew up hunting with my Dad and I remember how upset he was about having to hand in some of his favourites but when I look at the world now I’m grateful it was done.

Your rules are better than ours.

I've had some minor symptoms for a few weeks... more like a cold then anything. And combined with having travelled to Bali (though have been back 4 weeks) ...my work has advised me to stay home given I work in a locked Mental Health facility where staff and patients are in close confine. The annoying part is I don't fit our current criteria to be tested, as have been back from os for longer then two weeks.

Also like others have commented, my retirement fund is plummeting at an alarming rate, and under our system I can't touch it for another 5 years to at least cash it and stuff it under the mattress. It's torture to watch 38 years of savings just dwindling away.

Cashing out would be a mistake, anyway. When this crisis is over, stock values will slowly recover, just as they always do (see chart below). have five years until retirement? Just be patient. Your retirement fund is not going to recover as fast as it declined, but it will eventually recover.

When stocks hit rock bottom, wealthy people will be buying, not cashing out. Buy low, sell high.

Sounds like wise advice. But it is a bit nerve racking...wish I had the discipline to just stop checking.
