How is the corona virus affecting you?

I just know it's going to happen, eventually. Some Nimrod is going to shoot another Nimrod in a fight over toilet paper.

I'm positively convinced of it. We've already had fights break out over TP here, and my area is very gun-happy. It's a recipe for disaster.

Won't be any gun fights here. Supermarkets devote an hour for oaps. Also they cut hours back, some quite a bit. We had to get about 5 items at 6 pm last night. Everything was available. Except hand sanitizers, all gone. The owners of those companies will be rubbing their hands together.lol. Pun intended.

They've done the same here, both with regard to store hours overall and with special hours for senior citizens.

Been fine for two days, now coughing and sneezing again. That's already going on 11 days now. Does not act like a normal cold . Guess I am lucky it's not getting worse though.

I'm getting a meat delivery I ordered 6 weeks ago today. Organic premium beef, enough for 3 months. The way things are now, my husband and I can withstand a 3 month full lockdown. We're very lucky and priviledged indeed, especially because the boys are now at their moms and therefore not eating our stock.
She does not tell us anything about how they are doing, which is upsetting. But we can't take them back because knowingly infecting someone with ( possible) Corona can now land you in prison for 4 years or give you a fine of 88.000 euro's so the boys have to stay there and won't be coming here for at least another 4 weeks.

As of today all cafes, restaurants, pubs, leisure centres, gyms etc. are closed for the forseeable future. The government has put together an unprecedented package to cover 80% of affected staff wages, which is quite extraordinary and welcomed.

The closure won't affect me personally too much, although I do like to go to the pub sometimes and good restaurants occasionally. Luckily the weather is improving and as long as we are allowed out of the house, we can go on picnics instead.

This will not affect me, I hope.

The Thai authorities have decreed that anyone intending to enter the Kingdom by air after midnight on Sunday will require to present a health certificate (not more than 72 hours old) and a health insurance certificate with US$100,000.00 cover which specifically covers COVID-19. Should these documents not be provided then boarding of the aircraft will not be allowed.

How this will affect personel entering at land/sea borders has not yet been made clear.

Somehow bizarre that a PM who has spent his life ridiculing "the nanny state" is now being our nanny. Strange, strange days.

We took a walk up and down our local high street this morning to see what was going on. The oddest feature was the vast queue in, and outside of, the butcher's shop. It went a long way down the street and made us feel glad we are vegetarians.

On the way back, it was impossible not to invoke The Specials:

This tow-own is coming like a ghost town...

Our Governor closed all restaurants and bars in the state yesterday. Restaurants can do pickup and deliveries only.

They did that last week here. It did affect us somewhat, because we do like to have a meal out a couple of times a week.

I really worry what these people are going to do for money. I'm generally a congenial person, so that means I have at least a passing acquaintance with a lot of the servers and other workers at the places we frequent, so if feels slightly more personal to me, and not just some abstract worry.

I think about Susan and Diana at the pub around the corner - they just reopened under new management and were getting it done like a house on fire, now this. I'm afraid they'll go out of business, and I have the same worry about Emma who cuts my hair (salons have all been closed) - she's not just my stylist, she's a friend. Same fears for a lot of folks.

The government action here is excellent. I'm certainly no Tory supporter but the scheme to keep the employees funded at 80% salary is very good and better than almost anyone expected.

Sounds like you've had an unpleasant, but bearable, time of it with this stuff. I always check here first thing to see how you're doing. I'm hoping you steadily get more good days in a row!

Saranak - how are things at your end? Is your Ray doing any better?

Aww thats so sweet of you Reuben! If this is Corona ( can't get tested because I have no fever) then I am indeed very lucky given my condition. I'm really hoping this is indeed it, would be nice to not be the special case this time. You would say someone has to be lucky at some point, maybe this is it 🙂
