How is the corona virus affecting you?

We’ve just hit a new low, although I’m surprised I haven’t heard more of the sort of thing. My wife’s a teacher, and she just told me one of her coworkers was robbed of their groceries. Have we really fallen so far so quickly?

That's bizarre! No incidents of such nature have yet been reported here. Bare shelves yes, but no robberies relating to groceries.

I've not got much new things to write on, we keep having good and less good days healthwise, whatever we have is very persistent.

Our government is looking at banning people from gathering in any groups at all, meaning no more than 2 people are allowed to be in the same place unless they are close family or there for work because lots of people here are still going out to beaches, stores etc in groups like this is a holiday. If this gets done it means that there will be hefty fines for anyone not gathering with a valid reason. And well deserved I think.

Our government still doesn't want a total lockdown, but if people keep acting this ignorant it will probably have to be done. Lets hope the above will be enough.

I recall talking to a taxi driver in Paris last month about how much larger the engines are in the States. In Europe, a 2.0L engine is considered a good-sized engine. Many cars have hybrid engines, and there are many charging ports available for electric cars. He told me that he'd love to get a big engine (the 3.0L in my Taurus is considered that), but the fuel is cost-prohibitive.
Large engines aren't that rare over here - though they tend to be diesel rather than petrol. We currently have 3 litre turbo diesel in our X4 - its great fun to drive (especially on the autobahns in Germany), previously we had a Z4 with a 2.5L petrol engine.

I also think its only a matter of time before we have lockdown in the UK too - there are far too many people ignoring advice. I know its hard....we've had such a wet and rainy winter and now the sun is shining everyone wants to get out and enjoy it (before it goes away again!). But people need to get their priorities right, and if they can't be sensible then the government is going to have to legislate.

We are officially self isolating, TVC is poorly and I will not risk others health and lives by going to work and passing it on.
Don't like being off when I am not ill but rules are rules.

Is the company you work for likely to stay open much longer. I think its likely that very shortly, all but 'essential' businesses will be closed unless they can be operated remotely.

I agree. It will be interesting to see how it is policed when it happens, which I suspect may be very soon.

I'm facing the fact that I'll probably have to give up drinking alcohol. The rationing on items means its not possible to stock up and shelves are increasingly depleted. It can hardly be seen as a priority to keep supplies of alcohol going. Food has to come first.

Here, so far anyway, there's plenty of booze available and no rationing of that yet.

Maybe we need a "What Booze Do You Have?" topic. :drink:

We have probably 15 bottles of wine, about 30 bottles of beer, and then various spirits, though just the usual stuff (rum, bourbon, vodka, etc).

I currently have 158 bottles of beer (640ml) shortly to be 157, 1 bottle of cabernet sauvignon (obviously un-opened), about ⅔rds bottle of Thai whiskey, ½ bottle of Chinese wine (virus free) and, if push comes to shove, a jar of rubbing alcohol.
