How long to soak chia seeds?

How long do chia seeds need to expand in cold, warm and boiling water?
I left some chia seeds in cold water for about 20 minutes and they didn't look any bigger.

I'm not sure on warm or boiling water, but I'm pretty certain cold water & chia seeds is an overnight soak, so minimum 8-12hrs

Goggle says between 10 minutes to 2 hours, until they achieve a jelly-like texture.

I saw some lentil and chia seed soup recipes online and they all said to put in the chia seeds at around the same times as the lentils.
Therefore, 20 minutes or so is fine for them to soak in boiling water. I did my own recipe and have lived to tell the tale.
