How to cook rice on the stovetop?

Well I am going to say "thank you" for sharing the microwave recipe which I still might not use but was always curious about. Normally I just bring my water to a boil in the saucepan, rinse my rice and add to the pot. I never measure so sometimes I might have to add some water. I allow to cook at medium temperature and then lower as the water is drying out until it reaches perfection. I had a perfect record of cooking rice until I burnt some recently. A friend who works in the hotel industry tells me they don't do it that way. They cook the rice to correct texture and throw the water off. I am yet to try that method.

When my rice is cooked in the rice cooker, when the cooker has cooked the rice, the unit goes into the Keep Warm mode. I just unplug it then to stop the cooking.
