How to store part of a vanilla bean pod

If I only need part of a vanilla bean pod, what should I do with the rest of the bean? How long will it retain it's flavour?

I honestly don't know. However I do know that it is possible to get a vanilla bean paste which might be a better solution.

If you have a vacuum sealer, that's what you should use otherwise wrap in plastic and store in a ziplock bag while removing most of the air and keep at room temperature and in a cupboard.

If your going to use half only then cut into equal pieces and cut it crosswise as opposed to lengthwise as this helps to preserve flavour when you go to use the other half.
