Hush puppies help?

Watching restaurant impossible last night and the subject of hush pippi came up. The restaurant thought theirs was best? Robert made his smy they got people to approve, his was gar better than the other.
He put caramelized onions and spices in his and they loved them.
So I'm no wiser to what goed in them?
medtran49 and I think caseydog have mention these
I want to replicate these .
Can I get your take please. I'll use these for an entree!

I've only made hushpuppies a couple of ways.

Mini ones to garnish a soup.

Recipe - Corn soup with corny hushpuppies

And my go to recipe when we have fried or blackened fish or shrimp

Recipe - Buttermilk Hushpuppies

I suppose you could caramelize the onions in the vegetable oil also used in the recipe.

Hushpuppies are meant to be a side or even an appetizer, but not an entree.

I'm going to guess Jiffy cornbread mix isn't available in New Zealand, lol, but I love this recipe. I fry these up with fried fish or shrimp as a side dish.

I've never had Martha White cornbread. There are different styles of cornbread over here. I like it a little sweet, like Jiffy. I'm looking at the photo you posted and I don't think it's the sweet kind.

I have never actually made hushpuppies. Looks like other people have given you some good links to work from.
