Kitchen blow torches: uses and refilling them

I'm just thinking....
One of the things I like scarring is aubergine/egg plant.
I suppose it won't work just scarring the outside?..
As you want the inside soft , cooked and smoky?
I char (on the gas stove top) for flavour and then throw in the oven whole to finish, cook and soften if needed. Eg baba ganoush.
A bbq grill is probably best for the whole process but unless it's set up and ready to go, is a faff. Which is why I never use it 😅
