Kitchen Fails

Just remembered another fail.
I made pickles as usual by using equal amounts of vinegar & water, boil it with spices, salt and optional sugar, then adding cucumber and whatever
So this time as well
Except I had used my empty vinegar bottle some time before for water when some needed adding to a dish
I didn't empty it out.
So this time I boiled the spices in equal amount of water .....
Not clever

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Just had an annoying fail.
Looked for a faster gluten free pizza dough recipe and found this one with over 900 five star reviews
Easy Gluten Free Pizza Recipe

I thought hmm cups, they are not good for measuring flour. Weight is a much better way to measure. But I thought I’d give it a go anyway, it all looked much easier than getting the scales out.
WRONG 😑

It actually broke my food processor (it’s fine now, it just overheated) so I had to decant it into the bread machine to finish the kneading. It was absolutely solid. The author says it should be whipped as the air helps to give a good end result. Mine was like tough concrete.

So I added more water (a heck of a lot of more water) but the dough was so hot from the poor food processors exertion that I suspect it will have killed the yeast.
I’ve left it to prove anyway because Gluten free Caputo flour is £8 a bag. So fingers crossed.

Then I realised of course it’s an American recipe that uses American cups so I had put in way more flour than I should have.
Quite annoyed with myself!!!

Craig did similar to me once. He had used all the chicken stock in the box and then put water in the box to rinse it out, but forgot he had done that and put it in the refrigerator. So, next evening when i was cooking dinner I wanted chicken stock, I grabbed the box and added water...

I'm at a vacation spot we've been to before but we flew this time. I did pack spices in my suitcase but I'm having to buy most ingredients. I normally make my own breading for frying, but I didn't want to buy flour, bread crumbs, and such so I bought a commercial breading. I don't like fish fry breading with cornmeal in it so I bought one for chicken. I had bought grouper cheeks to fry so I did that last night. We each ate 2 and decided they just weren't right. Disappointing, but we filled up on shrimp cocktail.

Instead of tossing the fried grouper cheeks out, this morning I removed the breading and threw it away, then chopped the fish into small pieces. I sauteed some mushrooms and the white part of green onion stalks in some butter, then added cream and warmed it on low heat. I added chopped spinach, lemon pepper, garlic powder, and diced green onion tops. This was the filling for today's omelet with some parmesan cheese and white cheddar (minimal cheese).

Kitchen fail saved.

I had a good fail four days ago.

I had just gotten a new knife that I've used a couple times. I was cooking something I was scurrying around for, and after using the knife I left the handle where it was just sticking off the front of the counter...

Yep. As I went from point A to Point B my hip hit the handle and the knife spun 180, quickly, firmly whacking the back of my thumb as my hand moved through the area.
Almost stitchable. Nothing a couple butterflies and some tape to keep my thumb from bending hasn't seemed to fix.

Last time I do that.

OUCH! Hope that heals soon.

That's a great save. I'm going to bear that in mind should the same thing occur here 👍

Wouldn't have thought of it myself. Would have likely binned it in disgust!

Nov 10, 2023. Just sharpened my knife and was slicing an onion. Went to push off some of the paper and the knife went right through the onion and I could feel it going through the meat in my little finger on my left hand. Stopped just short of the tendons but it was 5 stitches and $3000. Now I have the A5 cut resistant gloves...
