I'm going to be making sushi for our Christmas party this weekend. I normally just make regular rice for the sushi appetizer, but I think that if I add vinegar or something in it, it would taste better or taste more authentic. Does anyone have any suggestions for me regarding this?

I never heard of sushi rice but I love sushi so no doubt it would be awesome. I may have to try that sometime. I think I would enjoy it very much. I also would like to try making my own sushi sometime.

OK so I just got a package of seaweed from the grocery store and on the back of the package it says to make sushi rice by adding vinegar with sugar and things like that. That just does not sound appetizing to me at all. I may give it a try just to see how it tastes and if it would be good with sushi or not.

I've only made sushi rice a couple of times (and I can't find the recipe) but if I remember it correctly you cook the rice, fluff it up when its done and then add the sushi seasoning to the fluffy rice before it cools down. You use rice wine vinegar, sugar and salt to make the sushi seasoning.

Ok thanks. So I found the recipe and I did use the rice vinegar as the recipe called for. Yuck. If was really terrible! I ended up just using plain rice instead. If turned out okay.obviously not as good as a restaurant but it was edible!

I have always made sushi rice by adding vinegar, salt and a bit of sugar, tastes good. Not sure what went wrong with your rice but glad it turned out OK.

Sushi rice is easy to make. Especially easier if you have a rice cooker. Just cook the sticky rice with the proper portions of water. It will state on the package. Then add rice vinegar, a bit of sugar as well as salt to taste. Use a rice paddle to carefully mix it without crushing the grains of rice. That's it!

I have never tasted sushi rice, even though rice is a staple food in my country and we read rice for dinner and lunch. I can make rice in a pressure cooker or a rice cooker, but we don't like sticky rice. Thanks for the recipe, I will try this. What do you at with your sushi rice

Most people only make sushi rice to shape into onigiri. This is pretty much the sushi rice shaped into a simple shape, mainly triangle. It will usually have a little bit of filling in the middle. An example would be to have some pickled plum, salmon pieces, anything you want really. I find if you don't have any specialised piece of kitchen tool to make it, it's easy to use some plastic wrap, place warm rice in it, add filling in the middle, then roll up the plastic rice.

My friends love to make there own kinds of sushi with the rice, they put a layer of rice down and add layers of other stuff like cucumbers, avocados, sausage, shrimps, etc, and roll it up.

At one point, I had a friend who didn't or couldn't have burger buns at our BBQ. I had some leftover sushi rice. I shaped it into a bun while cold and fried it like a patty! It worked and she loved it!
