[Mod.edit post moved to form a new topic MG]

With Christmas looming I'll definitely be coming to you seasoned experienced cooks for tips and advice. Particuarly when it comes to making my own mincemeat for mince pies. This forum seems a friendly community, I used to be on Snap and Instagram but they're mostly full of trolls. I try and avoid social media. Forums are the best place to be for useful information. Thanks again everyone.

Mincemeat for mince pies needs to be made now. Right now.
Tomorrow, run, don't walk, to your local supermarket and buy raisins, sultanas, currants, orange peel, candied fruit, suet and, most important of all, some brandy or rum to soak the dried fruit in.

Well it's great to make your own but I generally buy it ready made as there are some good ones on sale. I often add a few bits of my own to the shop bought mince. But I always make my own pastry because I enjoy pastry making.

I think I may have a mince pies recipe somewhere on the forum. I think they did include making the filling myself but I'm sure I didn't make it this far in advance! I will look...

MG is absolutely right - there are plenty of good brands in the supermarkets. Since I live in a place where mincemeat has never been seen, I automatically assumed you'd have to make it yourself.
Here's a comparison from last Christmas: Best Mincemeat on sale

I haven't eaten Mincemeat Pie as we say here in the US, since my Scottish Great Grandmother passed away... we never found her recipe written down anywhere.
It was probably all in her memory banks.

My mom used to make it and I am pretty sure she made it from jarred product, but I didn't much care for it (more of an apple or cherry crumble or cobbler type person).
