Mirror-glaze cakes

We are all used to seeing the most beautifully decorated iced cakes, but is this taking food art to a new level?

What do you think? Have you ever seen anything like this, or tried it?

I'd love to be able to do something like this, but I have a sneaky feeling I would be far too messy.

They are pretty but I'm not tempted to try. After all - those mirror glazes probably all taste the same. The mirror glaze is gelatine based it says. @Matilda recently mentioned her husband used to make mirror cakes - perhaps he would know how to do this.

They look fairly easy to make.

I made a Lemon Mirror Cake, once, over 15 years ago. I remember it took three days to put together. It was worth it but, never again.
