What would be your ideal food related holiday? And where would you choose to go? Maybe you have already been on such a holiday - in which case do tell us about it.

3 choices allowed in the poll.

I just need 1....
Travelling and eating, sampling local food.
Okay, lets throw in a cooking course as well, but not a cooking course holiday. Just the odd one (voted for the cooking holiday, but as stated it sounds like too much)

Misunderstanding...
The choice of specialist cooking course holiday sounds like too much.
I like a cooking course on my holiday, but I don't want my holiday to only be a cooking course ;)

Sorry. I know what you mean now. I feel the same really. I wouldn't mind a day course but not an entire holiday.

I would prefer to pick a single destination and go on a series of organised small group and private outings. On our list was always San Sebastian in the Basque region for its pinxtos. When we visited Bangkok we took private day tours and evening food tours because we had limited time, and quite frankly the place can be overwhelming on your first visit. For quieter destinations we would explore ourselves and perhaps ask hotel staff for recommendations for where locals eat.

I don't think I would choose something like a residential cooking course, I feel my cooking skills are good enough to eat something in a restaurant then find a recipe on the internet when I get home and interprit that.

Pre-arranged itineraries are not my thing, nor is being stuck on a cruise ship. We like to wing it, explore on our own, and not be tied down. A cooking class sounds fun, but not something I'd want to burn a week's vacation on. That leaves 4, 5, and 6, which are what we usually do on vacation. We pretty much only stay at Air BnBs / VBROs with decent kitchens (not hotels unless it's just a weekend getaway) because we love to buy fresh, local seafood and cook it ourselves. We also like to talk with the locals to find all the good places to eat. In Aruba, I LOVED the amazing selection of fresh meat and cheeses, and my wife loved the Dutch poffertjes (little pancakes). In Puerto Rico, we loved the roadside BBQ, but they can keep their mofongo (plantains). Most of our vacations are along the East Coast, so fresh seafood is what we usually crave.

Organised food destinations; no. I want to be able to choose what I eat.
A gourmet cruise is definitely not my idea of fun. Sounds like Butlin's at sea.
Cooking course holiday? Well it wouldn't be a holiday, because I'd be cooking all the time.
Self-catering? Doing what I do at home, but in another place.
Staying at hotel comes a close second, but it's only one destination, and I'd like to see what other towns/cities do, so I'm going for travelling around the country. That way, I get to choose what I eat and enjoy regional dishes.
