I remember as a young man of 21, when first dating MrsT, being positively excoriated by her high (local) society grandmother, for drinking a Coke from the can instead of pouring it in a glass.I was taught the manner I described by my Yorkshire ex - inlaws. They were decidedly NOT posh
( they already considered me posh for eating yoghurt from a bowl and not the container )
She ripped me a new one, sewed it back up, and ripped it again in the opposite direction, all in front of future-MrsT and the rest of her family. Absolutely tore me down to the ground.
What happened next? MrsT’s dad, her grandmother’s own son, came waltzing into the room with a can of Coke, popped it dramatically, drank a big gulp, and burped like Buddy the Elf, and loudly declared, “Now that’s refreshing…right from the can!”
Seems he’d heard his mom taking me apart piece-by-piece and thought he’d come to my defense the best way he could.
