Hmmm...now what's different about this guacamole? In a lot of ways, this is a guacamole recipe with orange juice in it. The orange flavor adds a sweetness that you can balance out with heat to your heart's content. And, the citrus does play nicely with the existing lime juice: I had considered skipping the lime juice, but it did need the sharpness of the lime. By the way, naranja is the Spanish word for orange.
Ingredients
6 avocados
1 jalapeno pepper, diced
1/2 small red onion, diced
1/4 cup cilantro, finely chopped
1 orange
1 lime
salt as needed
Directions
1. Scoop out the flesh of the avocadoes and place in a bowl. If you're using the overripe avocadoes I used, avoid the parts that aren't green, since they will contribute a bitterness to the finished product. Stir in pepper, onion, and cilantro.
2. Cut the orange in half, an scoop out the flesh, taking care to maintain the integrity of the orange peel. Juice the flesh of the orange into the bowl. Also juice the lime into the bowl, then blend thoroughly. Adjust the salt level as desired. Scoop guacamole into the orange peel shells and serve with chips.
