I recall GrandMother was watching us while parents travelling and we let the dog, Shameless, lick the plates clean. GM went to put them in the sink and my sister piped up; "No, they just go straight back in the cabinets now." The look on her face... :whistling:

When we were kids, if we ever skinned a knee or anything like that, Mom would command, “Now yah jus’ hol’ still…Shag! Shag!! SHAAAAGGG!!!…that’s a good boy, now git over here an’ lick ‘at clean! Yessir, best med’cine there is…makes it heal up fast!”

Yup, the last time I was cooking in someone else’s kitchen, knives were very dull, and it really made me appreciate a good, sharp knife - something that’s easy to take for granted.

One of my (many) favorite Pepin moments - he was part of a quite lengthy Q&A session among culinary students, and one student asked, “You’re known for your calm manner…what’s something that makes you angry?”

Pepin almost spat out his answer, like it was making him mad just thinking about it:

“A dull knife!”

Reminds me of the "clean as cold water can get em" joke.

Cold water was the dog's name.

When I was taking the microbiology portion of my pathophysiology class while getting my medical transcriptionist degree, my instructor (a retired MD) dispelled that myth...and he qualified it by saying, "The saying goes that a dog's mouth is cleaner than a humans, and that might be true to some extent, but trust me, there are still lots of bacteria going on in the mouth of an animal that licks it's butt and genitals. I wouldn't allow an animal to lick my wounds, that's what antiseptics are for." That was good enough for me!
 
I've mentioned this before, but it's annoying to find food in containers and ziplocks in the refrigerator that are not fully closed and they are drying out. This recently happened with some really nice cheddar cheese that I bought. After I opened it, I put it in a ziplock. DH cut off a piece and put the large section back in the ziplock but just folded the bag over instead of sealing it, and some of the cheese got dried out.

This happens with containers as well. I generally use Pyrex for food storage. DH will remove some food from a container to heat and eat, and won't seal the lid all the way around so there is a gap in it. But maybe it's because at times he has forced the lid down with the edge caught under and it ripped a tear in the container lid? I've got a few lids like that!
