My plans went awry.
Key employee has covid and is quite unwell.
I sound the alarm and our boys kindly come back from uni.
Cue triple work because A) we have to piece together what sick employee hasn‘t yet managed to key into the system. B) The boys still have to attend uni. C) Got them in the house and they needing feeding D) I leave tomorrow to stay with my mum to clean stinky carpets and go to GP appointment so lots of prep and calling carers etc.
I’m currently eyeballing a bottle of wine, I don’t think it will help me along with things tomorrow but it would be nice today

I canceled my PT appointment today, as a precaution. I was exposed to Covid (my dad) on Friday. I don't want to risk spreading Covid to the PT staff, and do not want to do exercises wearing a mask.
I need some groceries now that I am back at home. I'll go to my nearby Kroger this afternoon. It will be almost empty so I can easily social-distance. I'll bring a mask that I can put on if I need to interact with people.

Yesterday's first vegan Christmas cheese (baked almond feta) has been completed successfully. It had 4hrs in the oven on a very low temperature last night along with cooling overnight in the oven. It looks good and smells great this morning. The test will be when I cut it up and freeze it, if I have managed to press enough water out of the mixture.
Today I get to start the fermented cheeses. I've got a base recipe that then gets inoculated with vegan cheese spores and left to do is thing.
I've also got to start cleaning the house. I'll need to start in the worst room, the mud room because that's where the cheeses do their thing. It's the warmest room in the house. But that means I need to take the dust and dirt in there!
I also need to go around all of the water tanks and clean their litter collection meshes. We've finally had some rain (50mm) and a lot of debris has been washed into the traps. We're due more, but I'm not hopeful looking at the rain radar. I think it has gone too far to the coast for us to get more sadly. But 50mm is better than nothing and it does add 10% to the year's total rainfall.
But that also means we'll be cutting the lawn by the weekend, and I'll be picking many more raspberries by tomorrow. I won't complain about the raspberries. I make no guarantees on the lawn!

Off to Bucks to take my mum to her GP appointment.
I could well be stuck there for a week as my brother has cancelled due to his baby having hand foot n mouth and the only other person available and capable of wielding a carpet cleaner is my son who can’t come til Sunday.
The carpet cleaner can’t be returned til Monday and the care providers I contacted have people off with Covid and will be able to come “sometime next week”
So my plan today is get the shopping delivery, drive to Bucks, attend GP appointment, have awful conversation with my mum about accepting a carer and giving access to her bank accounts and if that goes well ring the care company.

I’ve been off since yesterday, not going back to work until Thursday, and MrsT is floating around the Caribbean with her friend.
My plans yesterday were to pick up my knives from their yearly professional sharpening (a steel gets you only so far), get my hair cut and visit with my stylist-friend (and drop her off a little gourmet treat I brought back from the Mediterranean), and to get a little yard work done, and to track down a specific Christmas card for someone. All done!
Today, I’m not leaving the house. I’m going to take stock of my painting supplies, then get paint tomorrow and paint a bathroom. Other than that, I’m cleaning the house a bit, watching a movie or three, playing a little guitar (well, it’s a regular-sized guitar, actually… ), making pizza, maybe a little more yard work…but I’m not leaving the house today!

Yesterday, I was in the garden from 9 till 3.30, weeding all the bromeliads. When I was done, there was only a 4 mt space to finish, so I was thoroughly satisfied with myself. " Finish that off tomorrow morning, no problem!"
Life, however, has an uncanny knack of ripping up your plans and making your day a right royal mess.
When I went downstairs at about 7am, my (disabled) son was sitting at the table with half a dozen napkins wrapped around his hand.
" I cut myself on that thing", he said. The chopping blade of the food processor
Cut his thumb, rather nastily, to be honest, but I wasn't going to any A&E at 7am , so I cleaned it up, wrapped loads of gauze and tape around it and fine...
Then the gardener came, so I thought "good, he can finish weeding the bromeliads while I do some shopping."
Wrong again. When I came back 2 hrs later, my wife had him power-hosing the garage, fixing the shower fittings and installing new lights...
He finished at 4.30, so no gardening today.
Then SIL turned up, so we had to "entertain".
A friend called . "On my way to pick up some of your piccalilli!"
Had to take the gardener about 3 miles away because buses don't run here after about 3pm.
5.45pm, finally got round to making breakfast
Everything is now under control, so I'm going to sit outside with a large scotch and contemplate the mountains in front of my house

Going to our local this evening for a comedy show, early start 7pm.
I’ve got to get off my butt and make some (American) biscuits since I have buttermilk to use up, then into town for some paint and painting supplies, then…painting the bathroom.
Did all the prep for 4 kgs of piccalilli today. That's the hard part finished.
I also cooked some minced beef so we can have empanadas tomorrow for breakfast. If I remember I'll post the recipe.
Now we're off to a birthday party for my wife's uncle. He's 93 today

Lazy Sunday today - cleaning up and bit and watching football.
I’ve been wearing a compression glove on my right hand (the injured one) to keep the swelling in my fingers down. I took it off today to give it a bit of a hand-wash, since I have to wear it 24/7 it was starting to get a bit gross - I could not believe the colour of the water after I washed it! Ewww!
It’s much cleaner now, and air-drying in the living room. I’m hoping the swelling in my fingers stays down so I won’t have to wear it as much anymore.
