Plans for today (2025)

I popped to the shop, weather was cold and wet, shop was darn cold. I got home and was feeling pretty rubbish (cold affects me).
Been chilling out for a few hours here but I need to think about food. Prob gonna have one of the wraps I bought later with something in it ... totally undecided what I'll bung in it atm

I assume there is enough for Pippi?
Certainly! She's got her chopped bbq chicken leg from yesterday, a couple of honey baked chicken tenders leftover from the freezer still to be diced, and her can of Incredibites... Probably be a slice of cheese later.

Riding to Plymouth to catch the ferry to Santander today. Looking forward to it.
I’m not sure how the strong connection between going to Spain and hankering after Chinese food came about but I’ve not even left yet and all I can think about is prawn dim sum

Lucky Pippi

Had an appointment at the doctors surgery 3pm.
After that I headed to the tyre place.

I'd seen my tyre was low yesterday when I went to buy milk, and I'd already had to put air in that tyre about a week or so ago.
I ignored it yesterday as it was cold and windy and raining, and the shop was pretty close to me, but I put air in this morning and spotted a nail or screw in it.
Well the tyre guys took a look and let me know that it could be repaired but that the tyres were in a bad shape and dated from 2016.
I'd already looked at the side wall of that tyre and figured it did not look great, and I know for sure they have the age of the tyres about right, so I asked how it would fare in an MOT. They told me that all 4 tyres would be subject to an advisory (which means they would get through an MOT but I'd be told I need to get them sorted).
They also said that hitting a pothole or kerb could totally break the tire wall. Well, the state of roads in UK sucks and there's no point having a ticking time bomb to mess up a day when you potentially need your car is there?
So I avoided paying for a tyre repair (yay?), and ended up paying for 4 replacement tyres :headshake:

Pricey!

very
But paying for the repair now, or getting them done one at a time all works out to be false economy. If I delayed replacing them and their prices increased for any reason I'd only pay more.

I remember an old college lecturer, he said some very true words that are a useful guide in life.
He'd say 'Buy an item when you can afford it, if you put off buying it it will only go up in price, then you won't be able to afford it'.
Even today this remains true for most stuff you buy - tho of course prices of new tech do tend to fall as it becomes less new.

Two places I hate going - the dentist’s and the mechanic’s, because both always, always, always find some way to charge me for more than what I came in for.

Like me going to load my truck in the Walmart parking lot and since I'd left the wheel turned noticed I was on the wear indicator. Unemployed at the time so getting unemployment but it was, and this was cheapest, $900 for four new truck tires. I learned more about tires and all that "stuff" noted on the sidewall that now I can make an informed decision reading all of that and don't bother with a tire shop anymore. PriorityTire dot com ships them here, FedEx puts them in the truck and Jim's Tire Service mounts and balances. Easy and done!
