Plans for today (2025)

I'm going to pickle some beetroot and make a chocolate beetroot cake, my son's favourite.
First came across that back in the 80's. From Josceline Dimbleby ( wife of David).
Never had one, sounds like a weird combo to me
Its not so weird. Beetroot is sweet. The chocolate cake comes out moist and a lovely rich colour.

I've heard of it, but wasn't aware it was a southern thing. I personally wouldn't (unless I was out of oil maybe, but then I would probably just go to the store instead and buy oil).
I've subbed half the oil with mayo before. Not a great big difference but it's harder to mix up.

Coffee maker is clean. Hey karadekoolaid I need some more vinegar, too, but mine needs to be really strong cleaning vinegar, please!

On to the bathrooms now and contemplating what to cook for dinner. I am thinking macaroni and cheese. My DH is out doing what he calls the heart attack test (shoveling snow from the driveway). He is still upright so this is a good thing. Meanwhile my 37 year old son is next door watching TV from the comfort of his warm living room. I find it irritating that he doesn't offer to help, he could have gone out there and done it since he was off work since Friday and goes back tomorrow night, but it would have interrupted his beauty rest since he works nights and doesn't get out of bed until after 4PM. I've told my husband to ask him to be helpful but he said it's fine. Sigh. I don't think so but whatever.

Lobster is more expensive than crawfish but people still buy it...
Ummm, yeah, lobster tastes a lot better and is easier to eat (I usually buy the tails, so one shell to remove and that's it). I do like crawfish, don't get me wrong, but I love lobster.

Back when I lived in Florida they were free. I miss being able to dive for my supper.

Come on now, no comparison, lobster tastes a lot better than crawfish. I personally went to Louisiana to taste the real thing in 1987. As for lobster, I had almost one every weekend when I was in New England.
