Plans for today (2025)

Run errands for my husband who still can't drive due to ankle sprain. Go pick up my prescriptions and get stuff to make a pot of spaghetti sauce to take to our oldest daughter's house Saturday. We got a hotel about 1.5 miles from their house so we can actually get some sleep Saturday night, lol. Plus they have 2 dogs and a cat so my allergies will go haywire. She lives 2 hours away up on Lake Erie so we don't see her, her husband, or our grandkids often.
Well the Saturday plan changed, my husband decided he doesn't want to go up there because his ankle still hurts and our daughter's house has a lot of stairs. She threw a coniption fit about it at first because she was having a bad day and her kids (she has a baby 6 months old who was premature and is still very needy, plus a 2 year old and a 5 year old) were getting on her nerves. We asked if we could reschedule to the following weekend and she said that they had other plans. She calmed down and got a handle on the kids, LOL.

The unfortunate thing is that I got a non-refundable room...at the time I booked I asked DH if I should pay a little extra for a refundable room, and he said no. So I purchased trip insurance for $9, but now trying to file the claim online and the website wants documentation from a doctor in case of injury or illness, and since DH refused to go to the doctor we don't have that. He is going to have to call them tomorrow and deal with it himself.

Edit that the baby is 6 months old but if she would have gone full term she would be just over 3 months old.

Will he? I know Mr SSOAP would say he would but then wouldn’t do it (unless there was a significant sum involved).

That has happened to me more than once and I really don’t like it so I don’t ask Mr SSOAP anymore!
It transpires he doesn’t really care about it anyway!

Yeah, I think he will. It wasn't horribly expensive (we didn't bother getting a deluxe hotel because we were only needed a comfortable and clean place to sleep) but that's $130 we could spend on something else. And of course I will be nagging at him about it.

What irks me is it was only $5 more for the refundable room. So yeah, lesson learned I will just pay the extra and not ask him in the future. We have never had this happen where we had to cancel a room but once, and that was just last year. And it was the last time we were going to make a trip somewhere. Hope this doesn't turn into a trend for him to say he wants to go somewhere and then back out.

Getting ready to run out to pick up some semolina flour. I looked on Walmart's website and they had it available to order for delivery either tomorrow or Saturday, but I want to get it tonight so I can make fresh pasta for another one of those turkey noodle casseroles we liked so much. I'll make a big batch of the dough again and I can cut and freeze some fettucine and spaghetti tomorrow night.

So I called a place called Marc's, which is an Ohio discount store that has groceries and other merchandise--because at the other local grocery stores here semolina is pretty expensive and if Marc's has it, it will be probably 1/3 of their prices. I told the young man who answered the phone that I was looking for a specialty flour called semolina that is used to make fresh homemade pasta and was wondering if someone could go check to see if they carry it. He asked me again what it was, and I spelled it out for him. Well I guess the "pasta" word didn't register with him...I was only hold for a couple of minutes and he came back and said, "Well I looked out in the nursery area and I also asked our manager, and we don't carry that plant." I didn't laugh out loud, but I was chuckling inside as I gently said, "No hun, it's not a flower. It's a type of F-L-O-U-R (spelling it out) and you will find it in the baking aisle. It might be with some other specialty flours like whole wheat, almond, rice flour...that kind of thing." He sheepishly said he would go look in the baking aisle. He came back and said that they do have it. So leaving in a few to get that and to pick up our prescriptions at the nearby pharmacies.

I told my DH and we both got a bit of a laugh out of it. I mean, I probably didn't know what semolina was when I was 18-20 years old, either. I likely didn't learn about it until I got into cooking in my late 20s and dated a couple of chefs. Still kinda funny though.

We had the same with our 55in tv upstairs. Wife: should we get extra insurance '? I said no..she ignored me and got it anyway. It was 2 years and 9 months old when it went kaput. We got a brand new one free to replace it.
Shes normally right.
