Plans for today (2025)

I peeled, diced and froze all the green mangoes. About 30% of the weight disappears when you remove the skin and the pit, but I still got 6 kgs of fruit.
Now I have to buy some jars.
Going to do a bit of gardening this morning, and then make some spring rolls.

Going up to Mom's and they'll all be eating steak for lunch and I'm bringing my pork ribs I cooked yesterday. I made her some chicken and mushroom stuffed crepes with Béchamel sauce so she doesn't have to fuss with dinner.

Got the weeding for today done - just had a beer reward, and I’ve fired up the outside grill/bbq for a trial run.

Still much weeding to do, but that’s for another day.

I made my DH a Mother's Day brunch, LOL. Now I am chilling getting ready to take my meds, get a shower, and get on making fresh pasta for the canneloni I am making for Mother's Day dinner, LOLOLOLOL.

I might have time to do a load of laundry (not really urgent, only 1 load to do). I can start that after my shower and finish while the pasta dough is resting. I really need to run the vacuum but not sure if I will get to that or not. DH is still out of commission as far as helping me with any tasks. If he would stay off the damned foot maybe his ankle would heal faster!!! I also have a grocery order to pick up at 7pm (10 minutes down the road). I think I will open a bottle of champagne when I get back and start cooking my fillings and such.

Sometimes you need to talk to people like that. I have a friend I have coffee and s chat with. He was laid off work but hes 65 and is struggling. He was up front with me so I take the time to talk guy stuff with him. Hes got plenty of money but just struggles not being in work. I figure I can spare an hour or so a week. He says he feels much better when we part.

I have enormous sympathy for people indoctrinated into the military way at a young age, who then have to navigate a civilian life after years of having food and accommodation provided, doing just their job and exactly what they’re told to do.

That’s quite some leap.

My oldest daughter's husband is ex US Army--he joined straight out of high school. Two tours of combat duty to the Middle-East really did a number on his brain. He can handle civilian life in paying bills and such, but he has loads of other issues that make life stressful for him, such as a few of his military buddies committing suicide. It's an awful thing to have to deal with. My dad had a lot of that as well after flying missions in 3 wars (WWII, Korea, and Vietnam). He didn't like talking about it but I have seen enough war movies to get an idea of the things he might have seen in the 27 years he was in the USAF.

Right before I left to pick up my grocery order my oldest daughter showed up with my 3 grandkids, and my nephew and his wife are on their way over with their baby. I had to leave, unfortunately, and since they didn't tell us they were coming I won't have dinner ready at a suitable hour and won't have time to spend with them when I get back because I've already started the sauces and meat filling and need to get the pasta dough going. I didn't even get a chance to run the vacuum. This is why I hate surprises.

Amen. They brought me flowers. They should have brought us dinner.

When I got back, the puppy had peed on the floor and the 2 year old had pulled dirt and pulled leaves off some of my houseplants, while they "adults" are all oblivious standing in the kitchen talking (except my husband who was seated), so instead of me focusing immediately on putting the groceries away and finishing cooking, I was cleaning up puppy puddles and corraling 2 children ages 2 and 5. And the puppy stepped on DHs hurt foot, then my nephew plopped his 1 year old's butt on the kitchen counter, so I had to disinfect that after they left. Glad I hadn't already vacuumed and mopped. Dinner at midnight now, but I skipped the champagne and went straight to the booze.

Should raised goats, but they'd be gently simmering on the stove right now.

My granddad was p.o.w in poland 4 years. He also never talked about the war also.
