Plans for today (2025)

I did a bit of kitchen clean up, and since my next 2 days will be a bit busier I made enough rice salad that I could use to accompany a salad or some other food on those days ... then clean up kitchen again.
Grabbed a nice 2 hrs sleep to fix the lack last night. Just finishing eating a salad now while watching tv :hungry: 📺

A shocking nights sleep and a lot to do today. Not my favourite combo but that’s the hand I’ve been dealt so I’ll just have to suck it up!

At least theres some sweetcorn, coconut and chilli soup left for today so that’s lunch sorted.
Does anyone else get up and wish it was bedtime again already? 😂

Not planning much today beyond snacky-snacks and daiquiris.

Crocs - I too am a convert (though I currently don’t have any) after both my podiatrist and physical therapist recommended them as relief for my plantar fasciitis…and they did help tremendously.

Trash bins - we give our trash collector a little something at Christmas, and that means I can look out at the end of the driveway after trash collection day and see where our trash bins were blown over (along with everyone else’s), and the neighbors will still have trash blown all over their yards, and ours will be clean and picked up.

$25/year is cheap to ensure the trash man takes care of you!
It doesn't happen that way here. You have to remember the bins are nowhere near our house, same for the post box.

If I'm coming home and see the bins are empty, I'm throw them into the back of my open landcrusier. It has a split tailgate, so half goes up, and half goes down. That way I can drive them back to the house. As for the post. It's a 15 minute walk at lunchtime each day...

The postie rarely comes up to the house. She ir he depending on the day will drive up to the postbox at the side of the road, for us, crossing the road so that the driver is next to the letterbox and just opens the window...

But the postbox is closer than it was at our last place. That one was 4km away and a much longer walk of I had been able to walk it back then.

Workday again so not much. Mak a few days worth of chicken for Pippi from what's already cooked and go through the fridge to see what I've got. Fridge is always a crowded wreck the first week after check day.

We sat down for 4 hours yesterday and hammered out how we're going to do the book. The idea came from the ambassador's wife, so it needs to be impeccably designed and photographed. Just over 30 recipes in all, plus explanations of the basic ingredients (especially the spices and spice mixes) and a little background on Indian cuisine in general.
This morning, then, involved an early trip to the supermarket to pick up some local ingredients and do some trial dishes today and tomorrow. Then I'll need to compile all the recipes (most of them, fortunately, are already written up) and check them for ingredients (especially spices) that are available/not available here.
Back just in time to watch the IPL, and when that ends around 2pm, it's time to cook and experiment.

My thoughts are that the photography is the issue. Photos of jars are obviously not the way to go. The pickles need to be seen in some sort of bowl and if possible with a glimpse of the dishes they might accompany. You really need a professional food stylist and food photographer.

Have I understood karadekoolaid? I assumed pickles but perhaps it's whole Indian dishes?

Maybe karadekoolaid could buy you a round trip ticket to come take his photos? I mean, I believe you have said you are not a professional, but your photos are always so gorgeous!

Agree here. The pictures will have a great deal with determining "the want factor" for the recipe.

I didn't get much sleep also. Woke at 2.30 am couldn't get back to sleep so I got up and went downstairs and put heat pump in up. It was 2 deg c it's now 11am.
Booze trip pay telecom bill. I just adjusted my plan $75; endless data. Plus I ordered a new s24 Samsung phone. I chose black over green or blue.
Another $1100 getting old is expensive.
I will pick up lunch while out.
