Plans for today (2025)

It's hit and miss. You can't just go and buy a for example a loaf of gluten free bread thinking it will be ok. Some of them are still awful and some of them passable. It takes times to get to know that out of 20 products only 3 will be edible and which ones those are.

My heart absolutely sinks when someone says "I got you some gluten free bread" because they've sent their time and money trying to do something nice and inevitably bought something awful that you have to politely eat some of 😆

Gluten free breadcrumbs I whizz up myself as I know which particular bread roll makes good crumb (Marks and Spencer gluten free tiger rolls if anyone UK based is interested) 👍
I don't know if it has ever occurred to my friend that she can make her own gluten-free breadcrumbs for her DH. I am really not sure that she would, LOL. She's not much of a cook. Yeah I know, right? I have a friend who can't cook? LOLOLOLOL

I can imagine at your skill level you have a lot of friends that can't cook 😂

You are so sweet for saying so, but I have seen some of the stuff you and other people on this forum make that literally blow my mind!

Some of my old friends have no idea, really, because my cooking skills just got a bit amplified during the pandemic and quite frankly, I don't see most of them often anymore. Not just because we grew apart during the pandemic, but two of my close friends have school-aged children and ours are grown, plus they are still working full-time jobs whereas we are mostly retired. Just completely different lifestyles. I guarantee they aren't eating dinner at 10 pm!!!

Probably not 😆

I'm also in a different place to a lot of my friends. Similarly to you they had their children later and are still working full time.
I think the long lockdowns we had really amplified how little I have in common with most of them so whilst we stayed in close touch throughout the pandemic (because I felt obligated to) it was plain to me when lockdown finished that I didn't have any interest in picking things back up again.

Heyho. Pandemic cooking was a great outlet wasn't it!

Quite honestly I found out a few others political views didn't align with mine back in 2016 and when they still hadn't seen the light in the next few elections, that was enough for me. No idea what they think now. That kind of thing didn't bother me in earlier years but it was different then, as no political candidate was ever as atrocious as the monster-in-chief we have now.

Difficult.
I've lived in a predominantly right wing area since I was a child and grew up in a 'we don't discuss politics' environment.
Apart from at home where politics was always a hotly debated topic.
But Mr SSOAP tells me some of the crazy stuff a few of them post on Facebook and I'm grateful I kept them at a safe distance 😆

I didn't want to know with one friend in particular, but I was put in an awkward position when asked point blank. She tried to impart her "wisdom" and opinions on me, which wasn't well received and I've only seen her once since then at her oldest daughter's high school graduation party. Politics were not discussed and we were present for as brief a time as possible.

My plans have taken a swift turn about.
My Dad text to say he's in hospital, he had a heart attack 3 days ago and didn't want to be a bother but he could do with clean clothes and the neighbours been very nice but it seemed an imposition 🙄
Also that he's had enough and feels fine so was thinking of doing a two finger salute and leaving 🙄
So I've booked the first available flight home tomorrow morning.

I sent him a text about being at high risk of a stroke until the heart stuff is sorted and he's not the sort of person who want's help to wipe his bum so just grin and bear it.
He appreciates honest language and said "In that case I'll swallow ever pill they offer" 😂
Phew.

Better go pack!

I use all purpose flour generally; nothing special.
However... a few months ago , I got a call from one of the diplomatic wives from the Indian Embassy and she said she'd got stuff to sell ( Shhh! Don't tell anyone! I could get into trouble!) so I came away with 10 lbs of the best basmati ever, 4 lbs of toor dal ( pigeon peas), a few other bits and pieces and 5 kgs of Atta flour - which is what's used in India. I'd say it's basically the same as "Western" white flour - but it seems a bit stronger and I've a feeling there's a bit of husk in there somewhere.
Go ahead and try the samosas. I just love them, because you can make a whole bunch, freeze them, and then just deep fry them straight from the freezer.
If I haven't already posted a samosa dough or empanada dough recipe, I'll try and do that this afternoon. Both easy peasy, and to be honest, you can fill them with whatever you like.
It’s whole wheat. Late the party, as always. Have you ever used gram (chickpea flour) ? Neighbour uses it a lot.

Questions: How serious a heart attack? Somerset or Spain? Has he had one before? DM me if you don’t want to post here.
Well done for getting him to stay. If in England, cardiologists can be really uncommunicative. Especially when the patient wants to go home. ( of course he does!) I have too much experience with heart attacks.
