Plans for today (2025)

No real plans today, it’s murderously hot again, and the story that all the news outlets seem to have focused on is the phenomenon of “corn sweat” - how high temps and bright days cause the fields and fields of corn in the Midwest to release moisture into the air, enough so to noticeably raise the humidity.

Any Midwestern farm kid knows that - when it gets past a certain temp, you can smell the moisture the stalks of corn are putting off, it’s palpable and a characteristic of summer here. I’m sitting (sweating) on the front porch right now, and the air is thick with that peculiar odor from the corn field behind our house.

By the afternoon, it’ll have crept into the house. Some people don’t like the smell, but I love it. One of the very, very few things about a hot summer that I enjoy.

Might run into to town to grab a thing or two for a sheet-pan supper tonight.

Was watching TV the other night and saw a new breed of corn that only grows to about 3 foot high. Would that effect you?

Release weekend, so I have to work this morning. Normally, everything kicks off at 7AM, which I don’t like because I have to get up at 5:30AM to do some prep work, but today, it’s starting at 9AM, but I don’t like that either, because 9AM-10AM is when I usually cook breakfast on the weekends. 😠

After that, getting a couple of knives sharpened, some grocery shopping, then the usual cooking and all that. Movie tonight, TBD as to which one, but it’s my choice, which means I get to submit a slate of movie titles to MrsT for ultimate approval. 😉

When I got up, it was raining. It rained again 15 minutes ago, and this afternoon, heavy rain is forecast.
Today, then, will be to watch the 4th Test match (England v India), the 2nd rugby Test match (Australia v Lions) and maybe open that bottle of single malt I brought back from Atlanta.

I just got my 2nd hand fridge in place.
I think mine fits 3 to 4 times inside JAS_OH1 fridge :)
Letting it stand overnight and switch on in the morning as I had to transfer it lying down (the fridge, not me)
So now you have two refrigerators, right? It's so cool to have the extra space!

My older refrigerator that is now moved into the garage is currently empty but today I am going to start with the cleaning out my garage chest freezer, transferring stuff from it to the garage freezer and a few things to the kitchen freezer. I haven't taken proper inventory in quite some time. But that chest freezer has some ice crystals inside on the walls, so I will unplug it, wipe it out, dry it and let it breathe for awhile. Might just leave it off until the next big meat sale comes up. I remember last year being disappointed I only had room for 1 turkey when the turkeys were on sale for about .49 cents per pound.

I have to make an Aldi run later this afternoon/early evening and two other stops. I also need to clean the bathrooms, but the bathrooms can probably wait until tomorrow. It's extremely hot here today so might not feel like doing much when I get back from shopping.
