Plans for today (2025)

Sainsburys used to have counter with freshly cooked whole chickens etc...that is now gone so we have gone back to cooking our own.
We still have those here, but I don’t like them, because after they’ve been roasted or broasted or whatever they do to them, the stores throw them into a plastic container or a plastic bag and seal them up, so the perfectly crispy skin goes all gummy.

Agreed, Ozzie likes gummy...

Outside of the house (and the deck) are all sparkly-clean, but with the heat and the constant motion of waving a pressure hose up and down and left and right and backward and forward and inside out, I’m completely without motivation, so no roast chicken from me tonight.

I asked MrsT, “You wanna go to the burger joint for supper? I’m not cooking tonight.”

“No,” she replied, “But you can go if you want to.” - but it was said in that tone of voice that meant, “If you go to our favorite burger joint by yourself because I said I didn’t want to go tonight and even told you it was fine…you better enjoy sleeping on the porch!”

So you starved tonight? :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

Along with work, I’m going to mow my grass today. It’s horribly long.

Funny story: I last mowed the grass on…Aug 1st, quite a long time ago, and it’s been alternating between hot and wet since then, so the yard is untamed right now.

I’d mowed it last just before we’d gone to Pennsylvania for nine days. When we got back. When we got back, I was three days out from a doc’s appointment where I wasn’t allowed to mow the grass for a week prior (among other things), so I couldn’t mow the grass when we got back. Along with that, I had my follow-up scheduled for today, and he’d told me to just keep the mowing (and other things) restriction in place until I had my follow-up.

That’s why my grass hasn’t been mowed in nearly three weeks…and we’re leaving town again Thursday, so I had a really tight window to get it done, and was praying the weather would hold for the 20th. That was my plan.

Well, our neighbor was talking to MrsT back on the 11th (timing is important in this story), he’s about 10 years older than we are, retired, likes to putter around the house with things, and he commented, “Hey, yer yard’s gettin’ a little long over there.”

MrsT explained everything, and he said, “Hey! We’re neighbors! Yah do so much fer us! Don’ you two worry about a thing! I’ll take care of it, no problem. Yah jus’ leave it tah me. Consider it done!”

That was…eight days ago. Still isn’t done, and now I’m back in the position of having one more day to get it done, so I’m doing it today. Fortunately for me, my doc called me yesterday and did my follow-up over the phone, saving me a 75-minute each way drive, and giving me an extra day to get the grass mowed.

If you followed all that, be prepared to laugh when I tell you later that my neighbor, who’ll see me mowing my grass later today, will likely come over and scold me, saying “I tol’ yah I’d do it fer yah!”

Cloudy here so it's not a pool day. Guess I'll make sauerkraut balls.

Hey TastyReuben its supposed to be a lot cooler tomorrow...mowing the grass in this heat, yuck.
I just finished. I’m sure if I’d waited until tomorrow, the yard gods would have done something to prevent me from mowing, as that would have been my last available day before leaving.

Supposed to be nice weather from here on out, 70s and low 80s daytime, cool at night. I'm sure PA will be similar. Enjoy!
