Plans for today (2025)

my favorite gourmet shop has opened a fourth location, and I’m off to check that out. There will be pictures.
Ok, here are some pics of the newest location of Dorothy Lane Markets:

Pumpkins (and mums)!

Pizza oven

IMG_1924.jpeg

Dessert case (there’s another 1/3rd farther down) - they’re known for their bakery items

IMG_1925.jpeg

Their salad bar isn’t a make-your-own kind, it’s a bar of different pre-made salads, including that steakhouse classic, the iceberg wedge (hello, 1950!).

IMG_1926.jpeg

One of three fresh seafood/fish cases.

More coming up…

IMG_1928.jpeg
IMG_1929.jpeg

That’s about 1/3rd of the beef on offer, plus additional cases for poultry, pork, and sausages.

IMG_1930.jpeg

This just smells good!

IMG_1931.jpeg

That’s about half the cheese case

IMG_1932.jpeg

And more behind that - DLM sends every cheese department employee to Europe for specialty training. They’re proper cheesemongers.

IMG_1933.jpeg

The wine - same with their cheese department, wine folks are trained sommeliers.

But wait, there’s more…

IMG_1934.jpeg

That’s the expensive wine.

A couple of aerial shots from the mezzanine, where shoppers can eat or just relax if they so choose.

And lobster rolls outside.

DLM is an award-winning nationally-recognized gourmet market based in Dayton. Their other three locations are all in/around Dayton, but this latest one is closer to Cincinnati (Mason). Even though Cincy is much larger than Dayton, they don’t really have a “gourmet” shop like this - even the international market (Jungle Jim’s) can’t beat them on quality, especially in the bakery, deli, and meat departments.

They also have a wine/beer bar, a hot grill, deli sandwiches/sides, full coffee shop, and made-to-order pizzas available.

I don't eat with my hands in the car since I abhor sticky or greasy anything anywhere it's not supposed to be.
My nightmare is trying to sleep while it's 90 degrees, no fan, no AC, I'm sweating, and someone puts bread in the toaster and toasts it 15 times and then crumples it on top of me while I'm trying to sleep, and the crumbs stick to my sweaty body, and it's like rolling on sandpaper. 🤬😭🤮

There there, Puggles. That should make you feel better!

They’re nice, but very expensive, depending on what you get - people who don’t bat an eye shopping at Whole Foods think twice and check their bank balance before stepping in there.

I still recall a spontaneous purchase for MrsT - they were selling hand-dipped caramel/toffee apples, dipping them right there - and it was…around $15.

Their signature bakery item is their Killer Brownie - they ship those around the country - and the last time I checked, a single brownie was something like $8. It’s probably closer to $10 now.

I shop very selectively there…but I love walking through their store. I can spend all day in there.

Speaking of Walmart, my curbside order was missing 3 of the 4 plastic storage containers I had ordered. Was supposed to be a 4-pack but there was only 1 container in the order. Submitting issues on their website using their automated system is like solving a Rubic's cube. Well maybe not quite that difficult, but...thankfully I know how to utilize the chat feature so I was able to get my refund.

DAMN!
TastyReuben that was my thought, Dorothy Lane Markets looks and sounds just like a super nice "Whole Paycheck".
Mind you now, not all Whole Foods markets are the same. Some are fantastic, as in, I'd live here. And there's some that are yeah, NO!
I'm soooooooooo jealous of you folks that have these specialty markets with all kinds of great goodies, I live in Cowboyville Arizona aka be thankful for what you can find!

Yes indeedy! Your Cowboyville is my Hooterville.

Swung by cousin A's house for a jalapeno off his plant so I didn't have to pay for one at the store. He told me I should take some of his basil, too. He ordered me some malt barley syrup from Amazon since they have Prime. I will likely get some of the basil tomorrow when I go pick up the MB syrup. And he has a container of chili that my DH wants to try. I sure am glad he is only 5 minutes down the road!
