Plans for today (2025)

Feeling decidedly dodgy so I’ve had to go for a lie down.
I started watching Nurse Jackie, it’s only taken me 16 years to get to it and I’m kinda enjoying it but I’m still unable to watch anything medical without thinking “they treated that patient without gloves” or “they didn’t wash their hands” or “Oh for gods sake that doesn’t work that way” 😂

I'm going to take Mr Porky to the free veterinary service this morning. The local council occasionally does these events , so that means he gets a free check up, maybe has his nails clipped, and gets to meet some other furry friends in the neighbourhood.
Then, around 11am, it's time to head off to the restaurant for the Indian Food Festival.

We do ours far more frequently than that. And it's less than 12 months since it was replaced for the same issue. There is no filter on the water at all and it is in a big of concrete water tank. What washes off the roof of the sheds and gutters up by the main farm buildings ends up in the tanks. The filter only catches bigger stuff, not the dirt and grit that is blown around. Normally it's not a problem but the tank ran dry due to a broken guttering issue and all the silt in the system got washes through the pipes... it was brown sludge coming out at first. We did what we could and ran out clean from the outside tap, but we've been having issues with it since then. The broken guttering was neither our fault or our responsibility so neither is the knock on effect.
If it's electric that sludge will accelerate the lower element failure and if it's gas it accelerates, usually, the seam failure between the bottom and the sides. Yes, no fine filter would defo indicate a shorter interval than a year. If you could handle the process, and I don't know the size of your water heater tank, mixing some vinegar in there and letting it come up to heat will descale the inside. Alternative is citric acid. Can DM if curious.

I wasn’t planning on spending all day faffing about online yet here I am, this is the point where a responsible adult would warn me about getting square eyes, the damage to attention my span and tell me to put the device down.
Fortunately my children are out so there are no responsible adults here 😂

Just us faffers... Hey, it's Saturday in this part of the world.

Start watching "Doc" if you get the chance. They just came out with season 2. We like it.

I'm a tenant which is why in this case, it's not my problem. And hence why we were not responsible for running out of water due to broken guttering in a part of the farm we technically have no access to though can easily walk through if we wanted to).

The sludge is soil though (light chestnut brown just like the soil), not calcium build up. We don't get limescale here what with the water being collected rain water. And it's electric, no gas (or for that matter even a landline phone which would help hugely with the lack of mobile phone signal coverage). We're almost entirely off-grid. Only on grid is electricity.

Well, it's good you don't have to bear the brunt of the expense. Off grid is good but it's all a matter of balance.
