Plans for today (2025)

Well, it's Sunday.
The water level is (too) high again, so still can't place my pump.
Now I would just wade in, if we didn't have those big green prehistoric monsters with big teeth living in the water.
But I'm getting tired of waiting, so I'll get some more guys, use my boat, and get it in on feel. Well, that's tomorrow.

I'll be watering the garden just now (via overhead tank) as it doesn't look like it is going to rain in the next couple of hours.
I've fed my sourdough starter and taken some out to make bread and/or pizza

So far I have taken my tank into the city (the land cruiser 80 series). Some idiot thought they'd try bullying me... they didn't win. They were too scared of scratching their vehicle! :D

We've bought the Christmas tree. Tried a new place this year so we'll find out how good it is next weekend.

We've bought a few things we didn't need, had lunch, let the girls out (this means the chooks are free ranging, instead of behind the electric fence).

Still to do is to weed the saffron crocus section,
Dig up a briar
Water the veg plot and other plants ahead of this week's heatwave
Replace feed and water up top for the girls
Sweep the verandah
Make ratatouille
Possibly cook the cold soup for the hot end to the week
Shower
Ring my mum.

Better get going
I made the mistake of letting my husband make the ratatouille.
Before I went outside, I reiterated to use all of the veg, he even joked that I meant use of the veg it required. Use all of the veg needed for the ratatouille, don't not use some because we have nothing to use it with this week and with the temperartures everything will perish.

I have come back inside to find that a tin of tomatoes has been used, but not all of the fresh ones we purchased specifically for ratatouille yesterday. He has not used the fresh garlic we bought for it specifically for the ratatouille yesterday. There are 4.5 red peppers still in the salad drawer which should have been used.... do i need to carry on? Now I have to work out how to preserve everything that was meant to be in there - he has used all of the aubergine and courgetttes - I bought their volume to go with the red peppers and various other bits - everything would have been in the right proportions if he had ..... yeah you know. GGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
and the fresh basil has not been used yet either.

I’d ratatouille the rest of it separately then add it.
Some cheffy folk cook their ratatouille veg separately on purpose to preserve more distinct veg flavours.
The recipe we use does do that except for the tomatoes. I may try to rescue things a suggested when he's a work tomorrow somewhere between revising for a profession exam on Tuesday morning

Resting day today, I just realized I don't have anything to cook for lunch but I have eggs and sardines. So I’m thinking of making Shakshuka with eggs and another one with sardines, not sure I want to mix these two. I also need to eat all my Lebanese bread. This is a good dish to soak up all the sauce.
I don’t have garlic, so will substitute shallots, I have some peppers in the garden and lots of parsley.

Today I’m going to get another cherimoya tree, it’s on discount, I was planning to drive to San Diego but we change our mind. This place is very close to me and the same place I got my 2 plants for Black Friday.
It’s a medicine, it’s a necessity, when I look at plans, my BP goes down, hey that’s what I tell my husband, haha.

I haven't done any housework since we got back from vacation last Tuesday other than washing dishes and cleaning the stove. It's cold and snowy out so not going anywhere. I think I'll do the bathrooms today for sure. I need to clean my Emeril toaster/convection/air fryer thing, and I'll probably clean my coffee maker thoroughly by running white vinegar through it and then water repeatedly. I plan on doing some declutter in my pantry but not sure when I'll do that, probably not today.
