• I’ve added a casual chat room to CookingBites as a place for off-topic banter, light conversation, and short-lived chit-chat that doesn’t belong in forum threads. The chat room is informal and lightly-to-not moderated, with messages being temporary, so it’s ideal for friendly back-and-forth that would otherwise derail discussions. Site rules still apply, but there’s no reporting system or expectation of post-by-post moderation - if something becomes uncomfortable, the right response is to step away. If a topic has substance or lasting value, it still belongs in the forums; everything else can head to chat.

Plans for today (2026)

I’m curious if it’s the chicken or the doughnuts I will pass.

Anyway, it’s raining here, so I passed on going to Costco for shopping, my excuse to my husband is the more I’m out and about the more I spend money, lol.
So while waiting, I called Meals on Wheels and inquired about the restaurant program, my sister wanted me to help her on this. She gets 3 meals on every other Saturday from a restaurant for free. The choices are Chinese or Mediterranean.
So I’m glad that is done. Every time I try to call the Meals on Wheels lady’s always gone, so glad I got her today.

Yep, it costs to open the door or start the vehicle. 💲

I looked and found no raisins, only dried cranberries and dried cherries. Oh well, I just have to do without. Now I’m waiting for my husband to clean up the kitchen before I can do anything.

Carrot cake is done, I didn’t want this many loaves but i ended up with 3. I don’t want a round base because I don’t think I have something big enough.
That’s ok, I will bring one to the senior center, except I need to get some cheap cream cheese for frosting. Maybe my local Albertsons has it on sale.
Resting before I line the paper up with parchment papers, tedious, i have to cut them to fit.
Edit to add, wrote too soon, only loaf, big loaf though, so no giving away.

While the carrot cake is in the oven I went outside and saw the neighbor’s landscaper, he was jumped up in my wall on the right, doing the chainsaw thing. After he’s done I asked him for price on how much to move my mulberry tree, I’ve been chiseled at this project for days or months, it’s nearly done, with me cutting the very aggressive roots, but I can see it’s not going to be done anytime soon, so I asked him how much would it cost to have him move it out.
He quoted a reasonable price and then he went at it for less than 15 minutes. Not only that I asked him to move my tree to a container and he said he would be right back. I went outside when he was away, it turned out, he jumped my left wall and moved my tree just like that. Too funny. I didn’t expect it to be like that.
Anyway one big loaf off my back, now I can put a cherimoya in the alley. The cherimoya I got on Thanksgiving sale for $35. I still need to move the dirt and wood pieces.
But what a day, a happy day. I now have space for my trees. Maybe more than one tree can be in that space.

We've just got home from butchers. I needed a piece of roast beef around 2.5kgs for the freezer for family dinner some time.
I like to keep at least 2 of everything. I already have ham and lamb legs.
We also bought 3 kievs..they are that big 1 will do us both a meal cut in half.

The carrot cake is done, I took it out of tge oven. But i made a boo boo today, I was looking at 2 recipes, one said 2 tsp of baking soda, the other said one tsp of baking soda, and one tsp of baking powder.
Somehow between reading those 2 recipes, I had 2 tsp of baking soda and 1 tsp of baking powder. :o_o:

How did it come out? Are you happy with it?
I made another boo boo, I used outdated vegetable oil, not sure if it made a difference or not, leftover from my daughter’s move, I didn’t see the date under no lighting condition. It’s not as moreish as the banana bread. My husband said it’s ok, but not a standout like banana bread where you want seconds right away.
