• I’ve added a casual chat room to CookingBites as a place for off-topic banter, light conversation, and short-lived chit-chat that doesn’t belong in forum threads. The chat room is informal and lightly-to-not moderated, with messages being temporary, so it’s ideal for friendly back-and-forth that would otherwise derail discussions. Site rules still apply, but there’s no reporting system or expectation of post-by-post moderation - if something becomes uncomfortable, the right response is to step away. If a topic has substance or lasting value, it still belongs in the forums; everything else can head to chat.

Plans for today (2026)

A relaxing day today, no cooking, my daughter is going out playing with her buddies from college. So we’re going to order pizza.
Maybe I will do something in the garden, maybe sort something out to take over to my sister’s house.
Maybe a day to pot around my garden.

Done everything this morning already, now I just play, play, and play. That means gardening for you non gardeners out there, haha.

I know I need to label some. I need to get organized. But luckily for me, I still remember a lot of what I planted, not 100% though.
It does test your memory to remember 160+ roses, 100 peonies, and 160 fruit trees.

I did go outside and trim my Eureka lemon, it tends to send huge stalk up in the sky, my husband used his saw to saw off one large branch of fig, I personally couldn’t do that.

Waiting to do more gardening work.

I had an invite to a party tonight, but looked at the weather forecast and there’s supposed to be a big snowstorm up there (it was about an hour north of here). So I sent my regrets to the host, came back home (where the precipitation seems to be mostly falling as rain) and I will spend the rest of the evening watching the NFL playoffs.

I make a map of mine. Of course the effort involved with making the map commits it to memory. It's like any other training, hands on usually sticks. 👍

I didn’t plan to do this today, but I had to be up in my computer sending an email anyway so I thought I downloaded the free TurboTax from Fidelity.
Well that used quite a few brain cells today. To me $5 for Turbo Tax is considered free but to the Turbo Tax customer service it wasn’t free. Small difference. So after hung up the phone with him, I just played around, sure enough, the download version was only $5.
I know every year since I retired I always get free TurboTax from Fidelity so why is it different this time. Glad I got another year for free.
