Plans for today (2026)

My plans include going out for the evening. Not something I often do, but we've got tickets to see Bill Bryson

The Best of Bill Bryson | Llewellyn Hall

We really enjoy listening to the abridged version (6 CDs!) of A Short History of Nearly Everything narrated by him, and have often felt there should be an updated version. Turns out that he has been working on one!
Wow. You are really lucky. Such a talented individual. I love all his works.

Today is keeping my fingers crossed....
The water level is very very low and my pump is out of the water.
If it does not improve in the next couple of days, I will have to buy more polypipe and start using my petrol pump again
That's where we're lucky. It rains so infrequently here that storage is really the only option. We've only run out twice in 8yrs. Both our landlord's fault. And we always have the backup tank (22,000L when full) as spare to the side of the house. That's can't be accessed by anything easily without the pump.

The level of the river here is controlled by the dam wall as we are downstream of a hydro electric dam.
For some reason or another, they are letting out much less water than prebious years
I thought I had placed my solar pump far enough in the water. I may have to change this, although thats not going to be easy.
But, I can pump direct from the river with my surface petrol water pump.
I have a 5000 litre water tank as well, with lines in place to fill with the solar pump, but also with the petrol pump.
This 5000 litre tank supplies my house, but also my garden via a small hosepipe.

Anyway, all can be used any which way.
But I am currently without any staff and I can't carry the petrol pump by myself.

What I still want to do is place some extra valves and fittings to make it all a bit easier.

I think I should make a drawing to explain better how everything is conected ;)

I think my landlord might need your help. No-one seems to know exactly how the tanks connect to the house, or how the dams connect to the 20 odd taps that appear to grow from the ground and mostly don't function any more. Then there are several other tanks that connect ordon't connect...

Most tanks around here are 22,000L tanks. But new homes have a much bigger tank nowadays even when on mains water. I think that comes in around there 40,000L mark, but I'd have to research that one. It's common to daisy chain them as well.

I think we (as in the farm) have 6 × 22,000L tanks, 1 ×15,000L and 4 or 5 × 5,000L tanks. I'm actually unsure on the number of dams on the property. I seem to find new ones each time I explore, but there's plenty to explore.... there is now also a solar powered bore pump but I don't think the ground pipes have been laid yet.

Australia has an obsession with storing water with just reason.

While the water is low can you extend piping from your solar pump farther into the river or it just has in intake with no pipe?

I can do that with the petrol pump, but not with the solar pump.
Just an intake.
So I would need to move the pump further out and extend the pipe after the pump
But that's a bit of a mission

By the time I got here today the plan was already done!
  • Citgo audit, halfway to Alabama!
  • Breakfast, oats and blueberries
  • Hybrid focaccia in the works
  • To the dump
Figure out what to do with 2 lbs of pork that won't fit in the freezer...
