Plans for today (2026)

Booked islas driving lesson.for tomorrow. Her second lesson..my son lee had given her 2 lessons but.hes too busy at work.
Yesterday I threw her in the deep end when after quick drive I put her in heavy traffic . She never said a word or I.
I think it relaxed her
I then got her to reverse park the car for the first time. I gave her 9/10
She will.need a few more.

Despite what parents might list as things, "most terrifying", nothing compares to teaching their own kids to drive! I'm sure my fingerprints are still imbedded into every dashboard...

my brother is a professional driving instructor. he specialises in students other instructors can't teach. He has asperger's himself, so has a better understanding of how best to teach them safely and how to get the information needed across to them in a manner they understand and can remember. He still rings me from time to time asking my advise on how to help a student with a specific problem. I am good at finding alternative ways of explaining things (being dyslexic myself I have needed to use passenger side and driver's side instead of left and right all of my life). I used to teach advanced level driving (UK Police standard, both RoSPA and IAM) which is a totally different level of observation and understanding what is going on and way beyond the current L plate test level. I held that standard from the age of 18 until I left the UK 8 years ago.

I think video games give them a good advantage. I threw isla in deep end with busy traffic. She handled it like a pro.

Visiting my happy place!

Today I'm planning to do absolutely nothing.
I was helping out at the British School bazaar yesterday, and was actually standing up for about 7 hours, so today I'm intending to do some sitting down:laugh::laugh:
Doing absolutely nothing, however, is darn near impossible for me - but at least I'll give it a go.

Today is another “weather event day,” as the local meteorologists like to call it - highs in the blasted 80’s (high 20’s C), then strong storms overnight, and lows back in the frigid 20’s (minus single digits C) this coming week.

Regardless, I’m going to get the front porch set up with our outside furniture, and maybe go and rip out the dead bits from the herb garden and get that cleaned up.

Seven hours!!! Those days are gone for me but I'm glad you still can. 👏

Seven hours is a lot of standing! Last week I had to do about 3 hours of standing on 3 consecutive days (events for work) and my muscles were sore afterwards - shows you how much time I normally spend sitting at work! (I have a desk job).
