They are hugely cute, and at least as intelligent (or more so) than the average dog. You may be able to train a chinchilla ... a chinchilla may also be able to train youOmgomgomg they're so cute![]()

I've had people tell me in the past about the aggressive chinchilla they or someone they knew had ... I personally would put that down to an environment where they could not relax properly. I did get bitten once by Lexie, but that was only because I was holding Domino and she missed him and got my hand instead. Lexie did not play well with chinchillas from a different cage, and I never managed to get her to accept the other two rehomed chins.
They are prey animals in the wild, and will always be a more rewarding pet in a gentle home where they don't feel threatened and can learn to trust owners
