I hate to say it but they are not exactly attractive dogs... Shar pei, I mean. But I suppose some do find them appealing.

Well, I know what what you mean. I suppose I just have an issue with extreme inbred dogs. Over many years some pedigree dogs have been bred to look a particular way. Certain breeds potentially suffer from many health issues due to this.Yes, they are a bit wierd-looking, aren't they?

In the late 70s there were less than 100 Shar Peis in existence! The ones we have now have been bred back by unscrupulous breeders so the dogs are all mixed up. China was sending Lord only knows what when the dog gained a demand in the US as being rare and the price shot up.
Get you on the inbreeding and health issues. I've had Shi Tzu dogs and one had really bad heart murmur while the other, his brother, lived to 17.
That's true. I 've a feeling that chihuahas were bred from long tailed rats and irascible weasels, but I may be wrong.

I've only ever met one that wasn't bat shit crazy. Most of them are mean and nasty, some pretend to be nice until you try to pet them and they bite you, and then some just bark their fool heads off at nothing and annoy the crap out of everyone.
I had a Toefl student a few years ago, with the most miserable, bad-tempered, yappy chihuaha ever. He only once bit me on the ankle, which resulted in him being booted across the floor into the fridge. Gently, but firmly.
