Show us your pet (2026)

Almost made it all the way back home. They're having an air show and the air port is just right across the river on the back side of the property so the jets are like right here. 🤨 Pepper ran most of the way back.

Yeah, I can sympathize. We just love it, not, when the Blue Angels visit here. You can't get away from the noise. When we lived on the edge of the everglades, they used that area as practice. I worked from home at the time and that week nearly had me climbing the walls, and the dogs just loved it, again not.

They got here Wednesday and I'm over it a day later. Pippi never was bothered with anything but Pepper hauls a** to the front door and rockets into the lazy boy, her safe place. Oh well, they'll be done later and not again until the fall.

It's funny how dogs are so different.
Sherlock is granddad to Bibi.
Good snaker, not scared of anything
Bibi is very scared of loud noises, esp thunder, but also gun shots and even heavy rain :scratchhead:

My late boy Totsi got overexcited whenever I picked up the snake tongs.
But that was because I used them once to try catch a mouse and Tots was amazing at finding mice & rats.
Sherlock gets excited as he wants to fight snakes.
Bibi just gets excited and barks and has no clue :)

We used to get the Farnborough air show. It's a big air show in the UK. We also lived on military land south of there and that was an active training area but open to the public, so everything except for live ammo. They did eventually ban thunder flashes and flares due to the fire risk, but that took 4 or 5 years to happen. We often joked that we would sleep through an invasion because until we heard live rounds, we'd not respond. (We did occasionally hear live rounds when the farmer or a poacher was out shooting.)

One of the things that used to happen regularly was drops and pick up exercises from Chenook helicopters (from online: The Boeing CH-47 Chinook is a tandem-rotor helicopter originally developed by American rotorcraft company Vertol and now manufactured by Boeing Defense). Their base was not far away, maybe 25 miles as the crow flies.
The problem for us was that they often went and hovered over what they considered to be a low risk area (aka the farmers field we lived alongside). Unfortunately, that was right next to us and the entire house would shake and the vibrations through the air would hurt my ears.

It didn't take long for us to come up with a plan of action... for the duration of the exercise over military land they'd be flying with no lights using night vision goggles, so we took to opening the curtains and putting all of the lights on in the house. They would get the message for that exercise and move away, but we would have to repeat it each and every time. It wasn't like there was no other land without trees, and more importantly without houses.

Yeah, we have the annual airshow in the city where I work - last year I was trying to have a peaceful lunch up on the rooftop patio at the office, until NEEEEEOOOOOOOMMM and squadron of jets flies overhead in formation. I feel for the people with dogs who don’t like loud noises.

Way back in the 70's they, whoever it was, was flying an Iroquois helicopter close and around the house so Dad got a rifle with a big scope on it to check it out. Not to wise now but when they spotted that they went away.
