The CookingBites recipe challenge: courgette/zucchini

This particular recipe challenge reminded me more than ever about the value of cooking. It’s not just for sustenance. The creative aspect has value in and of itself. There is also always an element of love, even if you are just cooking for yourself. There were many times I would make recipes that nobody else in my house liked, but I did. Cooking makes people happy. Cooking can take humble ingredients and create something beautiful.

That last point is absolutely true of this challenge in particular. There are few things more humble than the courgette. And, as I attempt talk to text, it’s amusing and also fitting that the AI tries to change “courgette” to Corvette. :laugh: There were so many beautiful recipes in this challenge.

My choice of the winner is also befitting my level of participation here. Maybe it’s my own sporadic participation in challenges lately, but I haven’t seen too many entries from vernplum over the last year or so. But, he certainly made this entry count. I absolutely loved the Confit Biyaldi recipe. It does everything you want a recipe to do: it transforms a humble ingredient, it seems nourishing, and it looks beautiful. Following the method, it reminded me of times where I lost myself in recipe prep, and then looked back with pride at what I had created. You should feel proud, too, sir. Congratulations on your win. :)

As you know, its now over to you to choose the next ingredient and become judge for the next round. As usual, its best to choose an ingredient which is fairly accessible in all our various countries. It doesn't matter if you choose an ingredient which has gone before so long as it wasn't too recently. A list of all ingredients chosen is here in date order and here in alphabetical order.

If you want to you can 'float' an idea for the next ingredient in this thread or if in doubt DM a moderator for advice.

And may I just echoThe Late Night Gourmet 's comment on taking a humble ingredient and making it special? It doesn't need to be rocket science to be delicious.
Finally, may I just congratulate all the participants in this challenge. An amazing number of entries, and I hope we can all keep it up. Remember, it's a challenge, not a competition, so never feel intimidated to post your favourite recipes.
