The General Chat Thread (2025)

Two days ago it was 80F and we had the fans on, though it was still warm even then. Last night it went to 45F so we turned the heat on. Today the high was 58 I think and it will be cool next couple of days.
Nothing but cold front and rain down here for the next week. We’re already flooded from a record-setting April.

We're in a cold start, bright blue skies, house is freezing, but sun so strong is too hot outside (the reality is that it's 2°C in am and about 18-20°C during the day, but the UV is on double figures, cycle at the moment. It's due to be like that until 13th May (week on Tuesday) when we might, just might, see some rain (1-5mm) but that usually disappears before it gets to us so I'm not holding my breath.

Warming up nicely here, yay for May!

So it's been 8.5 days since my DH fell and sprained his right ankle (both medial and lateral). I kept icing it (first 2 days) and nagging at him to keep it elevated higher than his heart, to not be impatient and try not to overdo it--just gentle stretching and lots of resting. He thankfully listened and cooperated, and by Thursday the swelling went down to nearly normal. It's still badly bruised though. Friday night I did some proximal massage on his upper leg and gradually loosened up everything above the injury (strokes towards the heart) and then probed around his fibula, tibia, talus, etc...and all the foot bones and ligaments. I didn't find any evidence of fractures or worse. Yesterday he was moving around a great deal better with less pain, but was on his feet probably more than he should have been.

Today his foot is still badly bruised and he is bored out of his skull. Bad combination, lol. He decided to send a text to our oldest daughter who lives 2 hours away with photos of his foot. She's emotionally vulnerable right now as she and her husband are having some issues, plus she has 3 kids who are 5 and under (that's enough stress right there). So she had a freakout meltdown, calling me saying his foot is broken and I need to get him to the hospital right away. I tried to get her to calm down and I explained that I didn't believe anything is broken, just badly sprained and recovering well. She said it's purple because there's no circulation and his foot is dying and if he let's it go it's going to need to be amputated. I tried to get her to calm down but she wouldn't so I passed the phone to him and let him deal with it.

When he got off the phone I gave him a lecture about alarming emotionally fragile people who are prone to drama. He knows how she gets, what was he thinking? I'm a bit irritated with him about that. He apologized and admitted he didn't put forethought in it before sending her the pics and didn't expect her to react like that.

So much for a relaxing Sunday.

I'm sure that I've shared previously that we have an autistic-high functioning young adult Grand Nephew.
He calls Uncle DH every other day, like clock work - he feels that this is part of his "job" - to call everyone on his contact list and let them know how his day went ...
The other day he called to share his triumph over Walmart ... for whatever the reason, he could not find his favorite snack cake, stormed out of the store, found a delivery truck on the side of the building, who was unloading a pallet full of his snack cakes ... he "paid the man and that was that"... he bought 32 cases, 16 boxes/case, 6count per box ... that's over 3000 honey buns!!!
When Uncle asked him what his Mom & Dad said, "Dad said some bad words! Mom took away my credit card."
Oh my

I went down to the dollar store for a jar of pre-made gravy for dinner this evening and what did I find?

I'd never had one of these before - all I could taste was sugar - Uncle DH said it was pretty good, sent a picture to our GN ("look what Auntie bought me") and off to the races those two went! They're still on the phone

I kind of did that at Bargain Hunt one day. Couldn't find the chocolate filled croissants I was looking for until I got to the markdown shelves. A case is 4 boxes X 6 in a box for $3/case. I bought both cases...

Bit sad.
Someone stole my tail bag off my bike.
The secure parking isn't secure during a power cut.

The waterproofs aren't gonna be much use to anyone cos who wants someone else's old dirty waterproofs?!
And the bags second hand value without the mounting plate is bugger all.
Unfortunately I had Mr SSOAPS Samurai mid layer in there too.
Most sad about my bright blue gloves. They are irreplaceable and I did love them.

So I lost £640 quids worth of gear that's essentially worthless to whoever nicked it! 😔

What is wrong with some people

Oops a daisy ...

Tried a new-to-me potion for under eye bags ... NO BUENO!
You should have seen DH's face!
I've taken an antihistamine and put some ice on the affected areas ... it's coming down.
The kicker is, DH has a cardio doc appointment and he still can't drive, plus I don't trust him to ask the questions that need answers to.
